Some Points about the Mavs......
Blew a 2-0 lead in the 2005 NBA FINALS. In 2006 came back and won 67 games, only to get roasted by the 8th seed. In 2007 slept through the 2nd half of the season. This after trading (2) 1st round picks, a young PG, their best big man for a 34 yr old PG. Hall of famer true... but it was a bit much…
This week the GM’s gave their polls of who is going win the Southwest Division. It was the CP3 lead Hornets that were picked to finished 1st. With the Mavs pick ummmm last.
With a week until tip off, I know I should be nick picking the Mavs for not doing something big in the off season… Fire Donnie Nelson!!!!!…David Stern needs to revolt Cuban membership too the club!!!!!, were my feelings this summer….
But I can’t and I want do that... Why??? Cause the Mav’s could win the West. WHAT!!!!!.
I know you guys are thinking Bleacher lets any a-hole blog on this site.. Trust me, It’s hard for me to believe it myself., But I do have my theory .. Please feel free to shot holes in it.
As I look at the Mavs .. I see visions off 2002, 2001… The last few seasons Steve Nash wore a Mav’s uni. , running the pick and pop with Dirk, fast Break basketball… Those were good times, unbalanced but good…
Here are my points
- Kidd and Dirk… After the trade Dirk seemed to be the only player to benefit from Kidd being here.. Dirk is now trailing the ball on the break, for some of those transitions 3’s… Constant ball movement, something the Mavs did not have last season.
- 6’5 vs. shorter in the post… For many years people have suggested that Dirk should be in the post… WRONG… He’s not your Best Post Player. It’s Kidd… if Kidd is pushing the rock and gets in the paint in his comfort zone against a 6’1 pg. Easy offense!!
- Gerald Green… AAU super star … I know a lot of people have blown this kid off. We all know that GG has major athleticism, but no control… Sounds like a lot of high school prep stars that don’t have an understanding of what it takes to be a NBA Player. GG can score in bunches…Him and Josh on the wings… Keep your eyes on that nugget…and He’s only 21yrs old.. Would have been a Jr. Coming out of Oklahoma State in the draft this summer.
- Jason Terry should be poised for his best all around season. It want be an All-Star season, but I do see him scoring more than 15pts a game.. With better fits at the starting SG, the JET can come of the bench and focus on being instant Offense…i.e. Bobby Jackson when he was with those good Kings squads. JET is a streaky, rhythm shooter... Running the floor with J Kidd, should account for easier looks which equals easier points… Look for JET to score about 17 to 19pts a game. The West is too deep at the guard spot for him to make the All-Star Team… But 6th man is certainly in his reach...Its going to be a long season these are just a few of my thoughts about the Mavs…
