pI do the blogging at Bolts from the Blue, the Chargers SBN site.nbsp; I thought I would go over a little on the state of the Chargers and and try and answer any questions you folks might have.nbsp; Most folks are curious about LT and his lack of production this year.nbsp; There are two groups of thought, one is that all the yards and hits have finally caught up with him and he is in rapid decline, not unlike Shaun Alexander.nbsp; Watching him week to week I think that isn’t the case, to me he seems hampered by the toe injury which seems to be getting better very slowly; time will tell.nbsp; The other issue is that the San Diego offensive line has not opened holes for him the way it has in the past.nbsp; This is likely the result of both Hardwick and McNeil being out for the first 3-4 games with injuries./p
pThe other thing that has not gone well this season is the secondary.nbsp; Ted Cottrell, our defensive coordinator, has a strong tendency to be conservative and goes with soft zone coverage.nbsp; With Merriman out we are seeing much less pressure on the quarterback; and even a mediocre passing attack can just chew up yards on this unit.nbsp; We are lucky to have Jyles Tucker coming back this weekend, along with Philips, these two outside linebackers usually do better at bringing heat on the QB.nbsp; San Diego also seems to have real trouble covering the Tight Ends, they have been ripping us for big gains.nbsp; This team has been very inconsistent; bringing good defense one week, but totally breaking down the next; I’m anticipating a great game on Sunday with a lot of scoring.nbsp; The brightest spot this season has been the continued development of Rivers at quarterback; despite turning the ball over three times last week he has had a very good year and the offense is mostly clicking along despite injuries to LT, Gates and Chambers./p
