Daily Buzz
I wasn’t able to witness the Jackets’ win over the stupid Canucks - Center ICE didn’t have it and FSN Ohio didn’t cover the game - that being said, what a game it, well, sounded like.
Once again the Goat Line put up an impressive show. Chimmer, who is second on the team in scoring - read that again, netted the first goal off of assists from, you guessed it, Jake Voracek and Derick Brassard. Go figure. The next goal came from our top scorer, no not Nash, a spiffy player by the name of Kristian Huselius. Seven points in 6 games for the guy. Who were those idiots who said he made us even for losing Zherdev? Not to be outdone, Nasher got an assist and the empty netter for the Jackets, bringing his production to 5 goals and 1 assist. He’ll have 68 goals if he continues his GPG… just sayin.
Another bright spot is (another) rookie, Derek Dorsett. This ninth rounder (yes it goes that far) scored the game winning goal and is drawing heavy praise from Hitch, who calls him “a big addition to this hockey team.” Sure will be tough to send him back down if we ever get a full and healthy roster. Though, with Modin in the mix, I doubt such a thing will ever exist.
It also looks like the changeling that was impersonating Pascal Leclaire has packed up. Word is that Pazzy was up to his old tricks of keeping the Jackets in the game with exceptional goaltending. That’d be nice if he’s here to stay.
On a crappy note, according to the box score, Nikita Filatov played all of 4 minutes and 51 seconds. I am not a pro coach, so I’ll let Hitch do what he does, but it doesn’t look like we’ll see young Filatov for much longer. He’s clearly here as a fill-in for the time being. Shame. With a goal in his first game I was expecting Hitch to give him a bit more ice time. Although, as I mentioned yesterday, Filatov played well with Modin, maybe Kenny wants to have a big Swede out there looking out for the kid. Who knows.
Next game is against the Rangers. I doubt we’ll see Fritsche - he’s been scratched more times than chicken pox this year - but we should get a peak at Niky Zherdev. Honestly, I hope the kid does well and we treat him decently. I’ll be there, hopefully living large in the Huntington seats…
