Kenny Florian, Jon Olav Einemo and the 5 Lankiest Fighters by Weight Division

Andrew MahlmannJun 9, 2011

At UFC 131 this weekend, Kenny Florian will be fighting for the first time in the featherweight division. Already one of the lankier fighters in the lightweight division, Florian is certainly going to be one of the lankiest fighters at featherweight.

Also competing at UFC 131 is 6'6'' heavyweight Jon Olav Einemo. Does he qualify as one of the lankiest heavyweight fighters out there?

So who are the rangiest and gangliest fighters competing today?

There are a good number of them, so let us take a look.

Here are the top five lankiest fighters, by division, competing today.

Bantamweight (135 Pounds)

1 of 7

Featherweight fighters George Roop and Micah Miller have experimented with drops down to bantamweight, but have since gone back up.

The leaves 5'9'' former world champion Miguel Torres to take the top spot.

Torres is rangy and lanky, but it will not be too long before another fighter close to 6'0" finds themselves comfortable at 135 lbs.

2. Dominick Cruz

3. Takeya Mizugaki

4. Cole Escovedo

5. Ken Stone

Featherweight (145 Pounds)

There are some super lanky guys at featherweight, but we have to give the nod to Rolando Delgado who is sometimes listed at 6'3'' and sometimes at 6'4''.

Right behind him is the fast-rising Pablo Garza, aptly nicknamed "The Scarecrow".

2. Pablo Garza

3. George Roop

4. Micah Miller

5. Kenny Florian

Honorable Mention: Jonathan Brookins, Dustin Poirier, Josh Grispi and more

Lightweight (155 Pounds)

3 of 7

Like the featherweight division, the lightweight division is full of lanky fighters who are 6'0'' and taller.

Clearly taking the top spot is Corey Hill who measures at an impressive 6'4'' tall.

Dustin Hazelett was one of the lankiest fighters at welterweight and now he fights at lightweight.

3. Cole Miller

4. Nate Diaz

5. Terry Etim

Honorable Mention: Cody McKenzie and Shinya Aoki

Welterweight (170 Pounds)

The welterweight division gets a bit more difficult to call. There are plenty of fighters just over 6'0", but none that stand out as way lankier than everyone else.

These rankings lean a little more towards gangly-ness and lack of excessive visible musculature.

2. Mike Swick

3. Nick Diaz

4. Ben Saunders

5. Chuck O'Neil

Honorable Mention: Dong Hyun Kim

Middleweight (185 Pounds)

5 of 7

6'6'' Kendall Grove is the clear winner for middleweights. He is not quite the pound-for-pound lankiest fighter, but Grove stands about at least three inches above everyone else in the division.

Sliding into the second spot is Jared Hamman who is making his middleweight debut in August and had already looked lanky at light heavyweight.

Former welterweight Tamdan McCrory has also recently moved into the middleweight division, and will probably be one of its lankier fighters. But since he is putting on weight, we will have to wait and find out.

2. Jared Hamman

4. Tim Credeur

5. Dan Miller

Honorable Mention: Tamdan McCrory and Jason Miller

Light Heavyweight (205 Pounds)

6 of 7

As we get into the heavier weight divisions with guys weighing over 200 lbs, it gets to be a little more rare to see really lanky builds.

Thankfully, there is still 6'6'' Cyrille "The Snake" Diabate holding down the fort and ranking as one of the pound-for-pound lankiest fighters in the sport.

As in middleweight, we also see the famed reigning divisional champion making an appearance on the list.

1. Cyrille Diabate

2. Alexander Gustafsson

3. Jon Jones

4. Anthony Perosh

5. Brandon Vera

Heavyweight (Up to 265 Pounds)

7 of 7

Even the lanky heavyweights have considerable builds and musculature.

The clear winner, however, is 6'11'' Stefan "Skyscraper" Struve. Struve continues to put on weight, making him less lanky, but it would be hard to imagine him losing this spot any time soon.

Some of the other men on this list are in the 6'3''-6'7'' height range, but do not necessarily put on weight well past 240 lbs, well below the 265 lbs limit.

1. Stefan Struve

2. Jon Olav Einemo

3. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

4. Travis Browne

5. Fabricio Werdum
