Mayweather Pacquaio Fight Close to Being Signed Mayweather Turns Down 65 Million

Mike WalkerJun 6, 2011

The largest fight in boxing history between current pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao and future pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather is getting closer to being signed and it seems the only minor issue holding up the fight from taking place is 35 million dollars.

ES News Reporter Elie Seckbach conducted an interview with Bob Arum and Arum stated that Mayweather turned down $65 million to fight Pacquiao. Mayweather is a business man and he knows that they need him to make the mega-fight happen. It looks like he’s not to far off from his original request of $100 million.

There is only one man that can get the two fighters into the ring and that’s Don King.

The two legendary boxing promoters Bob Arum and Don King will figure out a way to give the boxing fans what they’ve been anticipating, a mega fight between the current people’s champion and political leader Manny Pacquiao, and the money making champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

Arum and King have been in the boxing business for a long time and they’re in the business of making money so they will close the deal, because this will be a record setting event in the pay per view sales. The reason that King will get involved is because the deal is too big, and he won’t pass on the opportunity to get a piece of the pie.

My prediction that Shane Mosley will dominate Pacquiao was far from the truth, and it seemed like the former champion was willing to settle for going the distance in the fight on the seventh of May. He was able to give the Mayweather camp a strategy of what they’ll be facing when the fighters step into the ring, but that strategy might not be needed based on the performance by  Pacquiao against Mosley.

Pacquiao claimed it was cramps in his legs, but he was clearly under skilled against an aging fighter who was able to neutralize any offensive threat with basic foot work.

Boxing's Greatest Mega Fight Keys to Victory-Boxing Skills

Jab Ability

Pacquiao has the ability to throw a lot of punches and has been very successful in throwing jabs against fighters with less speed and mobility in the ring, but he struggled against Mosley, who was able to keep his distance.

Mayweather throws less jabs, but has more accuracy in the later rounds. His ability to stay in great shape and superior boxing skills allowed him to pick his shots and land his jab at will against Mosley in the later rounds.

Advantage: Mayweather

Power Punches

Paquiao throws power punches from all angels and lands with both hands. He has tremendous speed and power in both hands and is willing to take chances. Most fighters  are not willing to exchange with Paquiao after they taste his power

Mayweather has the power but he's not willing to press the fights and knock out his opponents out. Has a strong right hand lead and has displayed ability to knock fighters out, but unwilling to take chances in ring.

Advantage: Paquiao

Total Boxing Skills

Pacquiao has really improved and is the true fighter willing to fight and will win the exchanges in the ring with anyone that willing to go toe-to-toe. Power in both hands and he has the people convinced, that he can beat anyone that steps in to the ring with him.

Mayweather is the Michael Jordan of boxing, and he has the superior boxing skills to naturalize any fighter including Pacquiao that can’t match his skills. The boxing fans want to see a brawl and they won’t get that out of Mayweather. He’s a master boxer that will breakdown his opponent and utilize his superior defense, speed, conditioning, and boxing skills to get the points on the judge’s cards.

Advantage: Mayweather

Prediction: Mayweather by a very close decision
