Week 9's Top 10 Action

Bryan TaylorOct 23, 2008

A quick look at this week's games in the AP Top 10:

#1 Texas vs #7 Oklahoma State, 3:30 PM Eastern

Colt McCoy solidified his top spot in the Heisman race as the Longhorns Missouri.  This week they face an up-and-coming Cowboys team who also held Mizzou in check and would love nothing more than to prove Texas is not the class of the Big 12.  The conference champion will play in Miami on January 8th; the winner of this game will have a leg up on the rest of the conference.

Texas 38-31

#2 Alabama at Tennessee, 7:45 PM Eastern

Nick Saban’s squad faces another SEC challenge this week as it vists the Volunteers.  While the offense, and team in general, is squandering to find some consistency, Phillip Fulmer can make great strides to calm buyout talks with a win against the #1 team in football.

Alabama 28-12

#3 Penn State at #10 Ohio State, 8:00 PM Eastern

The Nittany Lions are enjoying their greatest start in recent history and look to prove their Big 10 superiority as they host an untested Buckeyes squad waiting to prove the loss to USC was all because Beanie Wells was absent and Terrell Pryor was too inexperienced.  If JoePa wants to prove he’s still got it, this is the game to do so.

Penn State 31-17

#4 Oklahoma at Kansas State, 12:30 Eastern

The Sooners look to take a breather this week against an inferior Wildcats team.  This game should be an opportunity for Bob Stoops’ defense to correct simple miscues and holes before the end of the season against Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma 41-14

#5 Florida vs Kentucky, 12:30 Eastern.

After a much-needed week off for rest and healing, the nation is anxious to see whether or not the Gators can continue to play dominating football.  The Wildcats hope to end a two-game skid by looking at LSU’s mistakes and putting them into the game plan in an attempt to not lose to Florida for the 18th time in a row.

Florida 34-16

#6 USC at Arizona, 10:15 PM Eastern

The Trojans did all they could not to run up the score last week against Wazzu while Arizona played their hardest to embarrass conference foe California.  Look for a similar performance by the Wildcats against Pete Carroll’s squad visits Arizona in an attempt to move them from atop the Pac 10 standings.

USC 35-24

#8 Texas Tech at #19 Kansas, 12:00 PM Eastern

Todd Reesing and CO hope to maintain their lead in the Big 12 North by beating a Red Raiders team which is only a few plays away from being 6-1.  If Graham Harrell or Michael Crabtree hope to have any shot at the Heisman, they must perform up to their potential and draw attention from Bradford and McCoy.

**UPSET** Kansas 42-38 **UPSET**

#9 Georgia at LSU, 3:30 PM Eastern

Mark Richt knows better than to let his team get too focused on next week’s Cocktail Party.  The Tigers are reeling to get on the field against a Top 10 team to prove to the nation the Florida game and almost losing to South Carolina were flukes.  If LSU lets Knowshon Moreno run over them like Rainey and Demps, LSU will need more than one referee to sack Matthew Stafford.

Georgia 24-21
