Strikeforce News: Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza Upset About Inactivity from Strikeforce

Mike HodgesJun 2, 2011

After successfully defending his Strikeforce middleweight title against Robbie Lawler last January, Ronaldo Souza has remained inactive since then, leaving more questions than answers for the Brazilian.

While speaking to TATAME.com, "Jacare" spoke about his situation further, commenting on the fact that he's been out of action for nearly a year, that has left him not too happy with the promotion.

I want to fight as soon as possible. I don’t fight for a long time and I’m upset about it," Souza said.

"For one who works for fighting, not fighting for a long time, when you’re ready to go, is the worst thing that can happen."

Souza said he believes the reason for him not participating in competition as of late, comes down to Strikeforce not being organized. However, being inactive has not brought Souza's spirit down entirely. The Brazilian is currently training with UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, in preparation for his bout against Yushin Okami at UFC Rio in August.

Souza had nothing but good things to say when commenting on Silva's training camp and preparations.

"Anderson got here not so long ago, but, as you can see, he’s in a really good shape, as usual (laughs). I’m pretty sure he’ll put on a good show, as usual," he said.

As he continues to train and become one of the prominent fighters in Strikeforce's middleweight division, Souza's only wish is to remain competing. And even though his inactivity has resulted in more confusion than anything, Souza isn't complaining about his status in Strikeforce.

"Every fighter’s wish is to fight in the best event in the world, but Strikeforce is a big event and I can’t complain about it," he said.

"I’m glad to be fighting in Strikeforce."
