Daily Market Wrap Up: World Series Kicks Off

Dan FabrizioOct 22, 2008

Moving Today's Market

And here we go. The World Series kicks off with a pair of southpaws taking the mound. Cole Hamels and the Phillies are slight favorites over Scott Kazmir and the Rays. At Pinnacle Philadelphia opened as -113 favorites, then the line dropped as low as -105 before inching back up to its current -108. The Phillies are slightly more attractive to the public as they are receiving 54% of moneyline wagers. With the slight line movement a Smart Money play was triggered by ABC (+36.25 units.)

There are some interesting match ups on the ice tonight. Dallas, coming off a big win against the Rangers, travels across the river to face the Devils. New Jersey is off to a great start this season, mainly due to the stellar play of Martin Brodeur. The Devils are 4-1 despite scoring only 9 goals and giving up 9 goals. Brodeur gets to face off against one of his favorite opponents with Sean Avery now suiting up for the Stars. New Jersey opened as -140 favorites at Pinnacle, but have since dropped to -136 favorites while receiving 65% of moneyline wagers. The movement triggered multiple Smart Money plays including one at TradeSports (10-5, +9.32 units.) Another intriguing match up takes place in Chicago, where the Oilers look to remain undefeated against the Blackhawks. Edmonton is off to a 4-0 start, the franchise's best since 1985-86, after finishing last season on a 14-5-1 run and barely missing the playoffs. The Blackhawks opened as -120 favorites at Pinnacle, then dipped down as low as -108. The line has steadily climbed up and now sits at Chicago -140, and the Blackhawks are being backed by 56% of public moneyline bets. During this movement a Smart Money play was triggered on the Oilers by TradeSports.
