Football + Sex + Pastrami Sandwich = Heaven!

Tiffany AntonMay 31, 2011

The pleasures in life: Football + Sex + a Pastrami Sandwich. How can one go wrong?

We used to call baseball "America's Favorite Pastime," yet move over baseball fans, Football is Here!

When comparing baseball to football, "Twice as many sports-loving Americans name football as their favorite sport (29 percent) versus baseball (14 percent), according to a December 2006 Harris Interactive poll." Football trumps baseball in regards to fan attendance, television revenue, player salaries, the game being a major event on a consistent basis and the popularity of our players.

Some 225 million Americans watched an N.F.L. game on TV in 2009 and over 60 percent reported being a fan of football. — “nearly 100 million more than the record number of Americans who voted in the 2008 presidential election.” This is true, in part, because while you can watch a football game dozens of times a year, you only get to vote once for president and you have to be at least 18. Fan attendance ranges from 66,000-67,500 per game. www.nytimes.com/2009/02/01/weekinreview

Football is pleasure, a total experience: hearing the game, watching the players, the adrenaline with the plays, the culture: food, fans, fanaticism.

"Is there a point at which every Sunday during the NFL season ceases to make a man feel like a kid on Christmas morning?" said Mike Alexander of www.Madfit.com.

But let's add sex to the pleasure list.

Can't we also put up a debate that sex, too, is "Americas Favorite Pastime"?

In the United States, approximately 53 percent of us are having sex each week.

Ninety percent of men and 86 percent of women have had sex in the past year (Kinsey Institute NSSHB, 2010).

On average we're having sex one to three times per week.

Eighty-three percent of men and 59 percent of women report really enjoying sex.

The sex industry revenues approximate $13 billion per year.

Utilizing these statistic alone, one could challenge that sex trumps football as America's Favorite. Remember one had to have sex to create the football player, fan and coach!

Good enough sex is between 3 to 13 minutes...I'd recommend fitting it in during halftime or commercial breaks.

"Sex is not the answer. Sex is the question. 'Yes' is the answer," wrote an author unknown.

Now lets add a sandwich. Ham and bologna are considered the most popular lunch meats in the United States, yet I beg to differ and instead side with George Costanza (Seinfeld character) on Pastrami!  His three passions were TV, sex and food.

To conclude:

Food is essential to survive.

Sex is essential for our continued survival.

Football....well some of us view that as our oxygen.

I look forward to the end of the NFL lockout, the beginning of a great season and...Heaven.
