Terrelle Pryor: 5 NFL Teams to Give Pryor a Chance to Play QB

Wes ODonnellMay 31, 2011

Terrelle Pryor was once the top prospect in the country, now he is under NCAA investigation that could bounce him from college early.

He entered the collegiate ranks with dreams of taking over the NCAA and has lost only six games during his time in Columbus.

At 6'6", 235 pounds, Pryor is one of the more intriguing physical specimens playing the quarterback position, not just in college but NFL as well.

In three years under center Pryor is a 60 percent passer with 57 touchdown passes, 26 interceptions and has run for over 630 yards in each season (two of those times topping 750 yards) with 17 career rushing touchdowns.

His Buckeyes have won three-straight Big Ten championships during his time, been to three BCS games but haven't won a national championship.

When looking at Pryor as a prospect for the next level many see a developmental project that could even be moved to a different position.

In his three seasons as a Buckeye he has caught three passes, two of which were touchdowns.

Now he is under a serious investigation from the NCAA and could face an even longer suspension than the five games he was already given because of the "Tattoo Five" situation.

When Pryor is done at Ohio State, whether sooner or later, (and it looks like it will be much sooner as reports indicate he's 50-50 on the Supplemental Draft as of today), will any teams take him seriously as a quarterback prospect?

He's an extremely gifted athlete but a mid-round developmental prospect at best.

Like most quarterbacks, he'll want to stay at quarterback and not want to change positions at all.

As they say, it only takes one team to fall for a player, and here is a look at five teams that could give him a shot to develop at quarterback in the NFL.

Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins have some quarterback issues they need to work out, and they have a very particular quarterback-needy coach in Mike Shanahan running the show.

The Redskins are obviously putting Donovan McNabb completely out of the picture and by doing so have turned it over to John Beck and/or Rex Grossman at this point.

Neither has proven capable of starting in the league yet, and we never know what Shanahan wants to do.

If Pryor is to come out this year in the Supplemental, or next season in the regular draft, he does pose an interesting option for a coach like Shanahan, especially this year.

Rex Grossman has started in this league but couldn't maintain and Beck hasn't had a ton of chances yet either.

If Pryor enters the supplemental, he could develop into the system behind one of these guys for at least a year before even considering a chance to step on the field.

Oakland Raiders

Is there ever an opportunity for an athlete that the Raiders won't pass up on?

Their quarterback situation is still unsolved, and they still need another player at the position behind Jason Campbell to begin with.

Pryor's athletic ability and potential would work wonders on the eyes of Al Davis.

Oakland continues to make strides (although losing Nnamdi Asomugha won't help them much), and eventually, they will have to decide if Campbell is going to be the answer or not.

Pryor certainly wouldn't pose an immediate push to Campbell or a help for the Raiders, but this is still the Oakland Raiders, and they love players of his caliber.

Buffalo Bills

This is probably the best fit for Pryor when it comes to an offensive scheme available in the league.

Chan Gailey likes to spread things out and give his quarterback options. Pryor would need something like that, and teams would have to account for his legs.

The Bills are moving forward with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the time being and adding a new quarterback with talent and upside like Pryor would be an intriguing option.

If Fitzpatrick pans out like the Bills hope, this could also be the best scenario as Pryor will need multiple years to adapt to the NFL game.

He'd have the system and the time necessary to make something happen.

The Philadelphia Eagles are very likely going to move their backup quarterback, Kevin Kolb, at some point this year.

The young veteran will likely fetch a decent price in return but will also leave the Eagles without much in the backup quarterback position, a vital position for a team that relies on the play of an injury prone, dual-threat quarterback.

But that also strikes home a big point: dual-threat.

While Vick does not try to run like he did back in Atlanta, he is still the most dangerous quarterback in the league with his legs.

For Pryor to sit on the bench while learning from Reid and Vick would be a huge plus for him.

Eventually the Eagles could develop him into their starter if given the right amount of time.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have a quarterback right now, but we aren't sure how long that will last for them.

Chad Henne apparently has one more chance, but he could easily throw that away with a performance like that one we saw from him late last season.

As far as the Dolphins go, they have some talent in a few places but need more a number of positions.

A developmental quarterback like Pryor would give them something to stash away for future seasons, almost like a overseas point guard or center taken early in the NBA draft.

Pryor could be had for a reasonable price to a team like Miami in either the supplemental draft or the 2012 draft.
