Is This Stanley Cup Finals Matchup Inevitable?

Daily Buzz

Nate SantoianniOct 20, 2008

It’s been a few days, and a couple games.  Since we last met there have been 2 meetings with Vader, and the Jackets emerged 1-1.

The good news is that the Jackets pulled off a 5-3 victory in front of a nearly  filled Nationwide (Joey had it from an usher that they were 100 off the mark).  Some upbeat items to take away:  For the record, I had to watch the DVR of this event from the hours of 12:30 am to 2:30 am on Friday/Saturday night… so my analysis will be brief.

Nash continued to show the NHL that this is the season that he scores 50 goals.  Last season, our captain netted 38 goals playing with the likes of Modin, Peca, Zherdev, Novotny, and Charlie Conway.  This year he is receiving his passes from the Sick Swede Kristian Huselius, who perfected his art of passing along side Jarome Iginla.  Nash will score 50+ this year and will be in the running for the Rocket Richard.

The youngins once again flourished.  Nikita scored his first ever NHL goal off of a (surprisingly) well-placed pass from Freddy Modin.  According to the Dispatch, Modin speaks very highly of our Russian pheonom’s ability to absorb information and puck-moving ability.  Stop me if you’ve heard this one - Voracek also scored on a gorgeous pass from Brassard.  Who were those kids out of Chicago last year again?

What’s with Chimera?  This brings into account for the Saturday game too, but the guy is sitting on a point per game production… Did he notice all the talent in the system and step up his game?  I wouldn’t mind a career season from him (he’d have to get 37 points for a career high).  I’ll set his target for 45 points.

The last bit I’ll mention is that our power play is in the top 5 of the NHL.  Nobody move… nobody think about it or it… just… let it be.

Oh, the thawping we took in Nashville.  I didn’t get to watch much, but what I saw made me vomit.  Norrena is as good as gone once Mason can stand.  Whether it’s Mason or Poperle that’s brought up, you can’t have a back-up with a 63% save average.

For the first time, our kids were held off the scoreboard, but the good news was that our first line continued to produce (2 goals).

Oh the struggles.  Leclaire is goofed in the head and the hands, Norrena is a sieve and Rusty is going to be a healthy scratch next game (just a guess).

I’ll be at the Rangers game Friday, should be a tough contest.  I’ll be wearing my Zherdev jersey, that way I’ll look like a hero regardless of who wins!
