Sean Avery Returns

Ryan McFaddenOct 20, 2008

Tonight Sean Avery will step onto the Garden ice in his new Dallas Stars #16 jersey. I expect a mixed reaction of boos and cheers from the Rangers faithful. Every Rangers fan for one reason or another, circled tonights game against the Stars as a must see. My feelings about Sean Avery are well known throughout this blog. He was a favorite of many Rangers fans during his short stay in NY. He was hard nosed, exciting, edgy and was a nasty painful humongous hemorrhoid on Marty Brodeurs ass. Whats not to love about the guy as a Rangers an? He even chilled in the blue seats when he was out with his wrist injury.

I completely realize that hes the biggest asshole in the NHL and can be a cancer in the locker room, but I still love the guy. He’s a diabolical genius, everything he does and says is calculated with the intent to bring attention to himself and make others despise him and it works. He gets under everyones skin like no other player can, just ask Blowdeur, Ilya Kovalchuk and Darcy Tucker. Its a unique skill and on top of that he actually is a very solid hockey player, something he doesn’t get enough credit for. But with all that said, I think its evident that Avery just wouldn’t fit into the team this year and not signing him long term was a wise choice. His past history has shown that hes great in small doses and often overstays his welcome. In fact I doubt he’ll play out his 4 year contract with Dallas.
