UFC 130 Fight Card: Watch Quinton Jackson and Others Deliver Brutal Hook KOs
When Quinton "Rampage" Jackson enters the UFC Octagon to take on Matt Hamill, he will be looking to unleash some of his left hooks on the former TUF competitor.
It is one of his most dangerous strikes, and it is one of the most devastating punches a fighter can learn how to use effectively.
This list will go over various combat sports and the different athletes that use it to their advantage.
Look for it Saturday night in the main event!
First: The Best Knockout by a Hook in Combat Sports History
1 of 7To start things off, it's worth taking a look at arguably the best knockout by a hook used by Sugar Ray Robinson to knock out Gene Fullmer in their second fight from May, 1957.
Over 50 years have passed since the all-time great used it so effectively, but it still remains one of the most crushing and brutal blows a fighter can throw.
There is no doubt MMA fighters, boxers and kickboxers have been influenced by the ruthless nature of one of the most famous knockouts in the history of combat sports.
No. 6: Robbie Lawler Knocks out Matt Lindland
2 of 7Robbie Lawler doesn't like to go the distance, and his record shows it. In 26 bouts, he has only been the distance three times.
Of his 18 victories, 15 have come by knockout, including one that came againe former UFC middleweight and Olympic Gold Medalist Matt Lindland. The two met in Strikeforce, and it didn't take very long for Lawler to land his shot.
50 seconds into the bout, and Lindland's lights were out.
No. 5: Takanori Gomi Knocks Out Luiz Azeredo and Tyson Griffin
3 of 7Japanese fighter Takanori Gomi has knocked out 12 of his opponents, and he has two very spectacular hook KOs over Luiz Azeredo (1:38) and Tyson Griffin (2:33).
Even though he has been struggling as of late, going 3-4 in his last seven fights, he still has fans wanting to see more of his standup assault.
The only highlight reel of his UFC career came in his fight versus Griffin. He became the first man to ever stop the exciting lightweight, and he did it in the very first round, earning a knockout of the night bonus.
No. 4: Carlos Condit Knocks out Dan Hardy
4 of 7Former WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit has only been to a decision three times in 31 bouts. 12 of his wins have come by knockout, and his win over Dan Hardy is his best.
Hardy trash-talked leading up to the bout, and in front of his hometown fans, exchanged left hooks with Condit. His didn't find the target first, and he paid the price, getting knocked out in the first round for the first time in his career.
No. 3: Melvin Manhoef Knocks Out Rusland Karaev in a Kickboxing Bout
5 of 7Dutch-Surinamese kickboxer and MMA fighter Melvin Manhoef is one of the most dangerous middleweights because of his standup, and you don't have to look hard to know why.
23 of his 24 victories in MMA have come by knockout, and they include some very scary ones against iron-chinned opponent Mark Hunt and Japanese legend Kazushi Sakuraba.
He also competes in kickboxing where he has a 37-9 record that includes a left-hook knockout over Ruslan Karaev (video).
No. 2: Paul Daley Knocks out Scott Smith
6 of 7With 27 victories under his belt, Paul Daley has knocked out 20 of his opponents. He has fought in the UFC, Strikeforce, EliteXC, Cage Rage, BAMMA and MFC.
His fight in Strikeforce versus Scott Smith was an exciting one, but it didn't last past the first round or even past the first couple minutes. He landed his left hook and put "Hands of Steel" to sleep with his own hands of steel.
No. 1: Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Gets Redemption Against "The Axe Murderer"
7 of 7The history behind the feud between Wanderlei Silva and Quinton Jackson doesn't need to be explained in-depth.
The two had fought twice before with Silva taking home two knockout victories. The third fight was eventually signed when both were under contract in the UFC, and it was Jackson's turn to get his highlight reel KO.
His left hook is the best in the business, and Silva found out the hard way, getting knocked unconscious three minutes into the match at UFC 92.
