Boston Bruins Drop Home Opener

Shawn OwensOct 21, 2008

The Boston Bruins dropped their home opener on Causeway Street last night against the Pittsburgh Penguins in shoot out form losing 2-1.

The Bruins, played well enough to win but came up short as Tim Thomas couldn't stop Pittsburgh's Malkin in the shoot out.

The Bruins came out last night in full force.  They looked like the playoff team from last year.  Pittsburgh was doing everything possible to keep up with the fast paced Bruins.  Pittsburgh's rookie goalie Dany Sabourin played well enough to get the win.

Phil Kessel is playing with a ton of confidence netting his 5th goal of the season on a great snap shot from the high slot.  "He is seeing the ice really well and is putting himself in the right places at the right time", said Chara.  He is doing the little things correctly that is making him stand out on the ice.

Claude Julien said, "As far as I'm concerned, you ask me my opinion, we were the better team tonight".

Patrice Bergeron made his much anticipated debut last night after being out for the majority of the season last year.  “I think this was a big game for him, obviously,” said Julien of Bergeron's home debut. “He did everything we wanted him to do, except right now I think he's frustrated because he's got some good opportunities and he's not able to finish. But that's a normal thing -- when you haven't played for a year, it's going to take some time. When he regains his touch, we'll have a pretty good player.”

"You want to come out with a point,” said Julien. “I thought we deserved better tonight. Nonetheless, we played well enough to win. Unfortunately, same old, same old in the shootout, we came out in the short end of it.”

“We played a really good game tonight against some really good offensive players,” said Thomas. “We should feel good about what we did tonight.”

The Bruins are in Buffalo tonight and if they come out and play as well as they did last night, they will deserve to get two points instead of just one point.
