NFL Trade Speculation: 5 Trade Rumors That Will Never Come to Fruition

Michael MillMay 25, 2011

If the current NFL lockout ever ends, we are going to see a massive scramble of trades and free-agent signings across the league.

Today officially marked the lockout's 75th day.

During all this time, fans across the league have heavily speculate about what their teams may look to do in certain trade scenarios—once they are finally allowed, of course.

Some of these rumors are possible, but there are others that will just never happen.

Here are the five least likely trade scenarios once the lockout is lifted.

5. Kevin Kolb Traded for Patrick Peterson

When the time comes, Kevin Kolb will likely be traded to the Arizona Cardinals.

Eagles' fans, that deal is not going to include rookie sensation Patrick Peterson. Please stop getting your hopes up.

The trade may include a future draft pick and a player, but it's very unlikely it will be Peterson.

4. Kyle Orton to Miami Dolphins

Kyle Orton could be traded, but chances are he won't be landing in Miami.

The Dolphins have now made it fairly clear they aren't ready to give up on Chad Henne.

Depending on your point of view, this decision could be considered a good or bad one.

Orton isn't a franchise quarterback candidate, but it appears Henne isn't on that path either.

If Orton does get traded, a more likely team may be the Seattle Seahawks.

3. Vincent Jackson to Kansas City Chiefs

Vincent Jackson is obviously fed up with San Diego. The Chargers' organization is obviously fed up with him.

This could very likely result in a trade immediately following the end of the lockout.

Last season, the Eagles proved it may not always haunt you to trade a star player to an in-division rival.

This has caused some to question the possibility of Jackson landing in Kansas City.

There is a big difference between the two, though. Jackson is still in his prime and will have the chance to do damage over the next few seasons.

I really doubt the Chargers want to face him twice a season. If he is traded, look for it to be out of the division—and maybe even the conference.

2. Chad Ochocinco to Washington Redskins

Chad Ochocinco's time as a Bengal may be over, but his chance of ending up on a team like Washington is still very slim.

There is no question the Redskins need help at the wide receiver position.

However, a player with a personality like Ochocinco's likely won't fit well on the team.

It's no secret Mike Shanahan typically butts heads with guys with strong personalities. Would he really bring a guy in knowing he probably isn't a fit for the team?

If the Bengals do trade Ochocinco, there are still plenty of other places he could land.

New England, New York, Kansas City and Miami are just a few of many options the team would have.

1. Donovan McNabb to Minnesota Vikings

It's not impossible to speculate Donovan McNabb will be traded to the Minnesota Vikings.

In fact, the trade would actually make quite a bit of sense for both teams.

However, Leslie Frasier seems to be very comfortable with rolling with Christian Ponder.

There is another team that may need McNabb to help their drafted rookie more than Minnesota.

That team is the Tennessee Titans.

Don't be surprised if McNabb heads to Tennessee to close out the final years of his NFL career while teaching Jake Locker the ropes.
