WWE Over the Limit Results: What's Next for Christian After His Loss to Orton?

Graham GSM MatthewsMay 24, 2011

At this past Sunday's Over the Limit pay-per-view, Christian fought world heavyweight champion Randy Orton in a match with the title on the line that without a doubt earned Match of the Night on a lackluster card. Ultimately, it was the Legend Killer who walked off with the gold strap around his waist.

It was predictable that Orton would be successful retaining his title that fateful tonight, but following their blockbuster that occurred a few weeks ago on SmackDown, fans anticipated a rematch as quickly as possible. Not only did it top their previous match, but it has cemented a high position on my list of favorite matches of each wrestler involved.

I will admit that I was one of the furious many that cringed at the idea of Christian losing the World Heavyweight Championship so quickly, but similar to what Chris Jericho stated on his Twitter future, looking forward to the future will make sense as the storyline progresses.

But with this emotional loss for Captain Charisma, where can we expect for him to go from here?

With this feud having become critically acclaimed at this point, one would think the chase continues for Christian to regain the prestigious title that was once his. Based on his excellent facial expressions following their match, Captain Charisma will soon become hell-bent on his quest to relinquish the title from Orton, seemingly becoming a full-fledged heel in the process.

It has been nearly five years since we've seen Christian engage himself in the dark side of the WWE, so his imminent turn from lovable hero to a crazed villain will spark new life into SmackDown and most importantly into the Christian character.

Christian won his first World Heavyweight Championship after many years of waiting last month at Extreme Rules by defeating Alberto Del Rio in a classic Ladder Match, for the most part due to the shocking retirement of his long-time friend Edge who was also present at the event. If he was to reach the brass ring once again, it wouldn't feel as forced this time around and be the CM Punk-Jeff Hardy rivalry of this summer.

Each week, the trust bond between Randy Orton and Christian has slowly begun to deteriorate, before it's all a matter of time before Captain Charisma snaps at the thought of not holding possession of the championship. With this in mind, I will continue to tune into Friday Nights to see this intriguing story develop.

If you have any brewing thoughts on what you speculate to transpire with Christian going forward, make sure to voice your opinions below. GSM out.
