What The Hell Happened To Tottenham?

czarsenalOct 20, 2008

The Times today reported that "A newly-formed supporters group have planned a mass protest for Tottenham's next home game against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday, calling on Daniel Levy, the chairman, to resign."

In that same article, manager Juande Ramos was quoted as saying ""At the moment it is terrible. Last season we won the Carling Cup and everyone was very happy." Spurs fans were over the moon,

Not everyone was happy. Arsenal fans of course were not happy. Oh what a far off memory that Wembley final must seem now for Spurs supporters.

A recent online poll on the Carling Cup official website put Tottenham as 7.6% likely to win this years competition, lowest of all predicted winners including "Other" team.

So what is the solution to Tottenham's woes?

When times are most dire, the analysis seems to get over run with much finger pointing at the back office or the on field management, or both, but will changing either of these really make a difference in Tottenham's case?

David Moyse's comments on the weekend about how many years he has been at Everton, contrasted to Wenger's years of reign at Arsenal (and the obvious reflection one would have about Ferguson's tenure) seems to lend credence to the argument for stability at the coaching level.

And the team selection that Ramos seems to have at his disposal is hardly the result of his doing. The tools he has at his disposal seems to largely be the result of decisions made by others and are not the ones he would likely have wanted to see made.

But does the club have the stomach to stand by its manager (who has an impressive track record, recent form notwithstanding) and make changes elsewhere to stop the bleeding, or are we doomed to see yet another good manager be made the scapegoat as a season draws closer to its January reckoning milestone?
