Eric Weddle and the 10 Free Agents the Jaguars Should Target in Free Agency
Jacksonville Jaguar fans should know this up front: There will not be a lottery of free agents to come south and make the First Coast home.
While free agency has not happened and there is no telling when players will be able to sign with other teams, rest assured that Jaguars general manager Gene Smith and team brass have players targeted once the NFL lockout is lifted and teams can start spending the almighty dollar.
Here is a look at who the Jaguars need to look at to make this team competitive in 2011.
10. Jeremy Trueblood
1 of 10
While the Jaguars drafted Will Rackley in the third round, getting Trueblood could help the interior line.
Rackley could be groomed to replace Brad Meester at center in a year or two.
9. Vincent Jackson
2 of 10
Jackson is not happy in San Diego, so bring him to the east coast and enjoy the same weather. Jackson also would immediately become the top receiver of the team, moving Mike Thomas to the slot.
8. Barrett Ruud
3 of 10
This linebacker may be cut by the Buccaneers. Maybe the Jaguars can convince him to move four hours north and play inside with Daryl Smith moving to the outside.
7. Lance Moore
4 of 10
This is more of a possibility. Moore is quick and has worked in the best passing offense in football. He can stretch the field and is a sure-handed target for David Garrard.
6. Plaxico Burress
5 of 10
He will be in shape, but not playing shape. Not as far-fetched as you might think. Burress will be on his model behavior and is a tall target this team needs besides Marcedes Lewis in the red zone.
5. Ray Edwards
6 of 10
Could join Aaron Kampman to give the Jaguars two rushing ends. Edwards gets to the quarterback, something that Jaguars have not done a lot of in recent years.
4. Nick Barnett
7 of 10
Another linebacker who can create havoc. The Jaguars need two starters. Ruud, Barnett and Smith would make a great trio of middle men.
3. Sidney Rice
8 of 10
I think he winds up in New England, but there is a chance he is on the Jaguars' radar. Fast, young and great hands make him a winner for the team in teal.
2. Gerald Sensabaugh
9 of 10
He is familiar with the team concept and will be welcomed back by defensive brass. He can cover well on kick coverage. A desperate need for the Jaguars.
1. Eric Weddle
10 of 10
This team needs speed and a strong safety that can tackle. Weddle is still young and talented enough to be a cornerstone for 10 years on this defense.
