College Football Predictions: Baby's Losers For October 25th

BabyTateOct 19, 2008

Before the curtain rises for the final act of the season in November, we have the opportunity to view several titanic clashes on the final Saturday in the witching month of October.

Surprise followed surprise last week for the Gas-House Gang of Baby's Losers. Can we expect any less from this weekend's "Clash of the Titans"?

1) Georgia @ Louisiana State

Power football. The great lines of the defending national champion Tigers versus the superb skill players of the Bulldogs. This should be a terrific game. I can see LSU winning at home but, here is a vote for the Bulldogs to redeem themselves. They remember the first half of the Alabama game. Baby's Loser, LSU.

2) Oklahoma State @ Texas

The Longhorns are No. 2 in the country in my 11 best 11s poll. I cannot see Oklahoma State running roughshod over Texas as they did Missouri. In a game that could be a bigger margin than some think, Baby's Loser, Oklahoma State.

3) Notre Dame @ Washington

How would you like to replace someone on a job and then have to compete each year with them? Lots of bitterness here, lots of "win one for the Gipper" but, which Gipper, the old coach or the new? Baby's Loser, Washington.

4) Alabama @ Tennessee

As inept as the Volunteers have appeared this season one thing is for sure: they will be ready for Alabama. This game has all the makings of a season saver for Phil Fulmer and Dave Clawson. Baby's Loser, in a close one, Tennessee.

5) Virginia Tech @ Florida State

One of the sidebars to this season is the on-going battle between Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno for winningest coach. The Seminoles, all but written off after their loss to Wake Forest, have gathered themselves and appear ready for a run to the ACC title game. Baby's Loser, in a surprise to some, Virginia Tech.

6) Colorado @ Missouri

How's that Heisman Trophy doin' Chase? The Tigers have been dreadful the past two weeks, coinciding with the linking of offensive coordinator Dave Christensen with the Washington Husky head coaching position for next year. Hey, there's no truth to that rumor is there? Buffaloes hang tough but, Baby's Loser, Colorado.

7) UCLA @ California

As bad as Jeff Tedford's Bears played in the second half in Tucson last week there is a temptation to take tricky Rick Neuheisel and his own brand of Bruins. Here's a vote for the Bears to recover by Saturday. Baby's Loser, UCLA.

GAME OF THE WEEK

8) PENN STATE @ OHIO STATE

This is for all the marbles in the grand old Big 10. In my own 11 Best 11s poll, I have Penn St No. 1 in the country, Ohio State No. 5. No apologies.  This showdown will go to the team that can run the ball. Baby's Loser, close, Ohio St.

RACE FOR THE TITLE

NAME /LAST WEEK/MISSED/ FOR THE YEAR/PERCENT

"12"              8-0                        NONE                                        53-11                  83 %

TIMOTHY     6-2                        Ohio St, South Carolina         50-14                  78%

Tim               7-1                        Missouri                                    31-10                  76%

Kenneth       3-5                       Missouri, Ohio St., Ole Miss,  32-16                  67%

                                                     The Navy, South Carolina

Baby Tate went 7-1 missing Carolina, 48-16 for the year, for 75 percent.

We had some outstanding projections last week. Joe, Jon, and Thomas all went 7-1. Issac, Kristofer, and Kent came over from Big 10 land and all went 6-2, as did Cody, Ryan, Robert, and Michael. Red Raider and Chase gave us their Big 12 expertise and both went 6-2 as well. Colin posted a 5-3 record and showed his Southwest knowledge by personally guaranteeing a TCU victory over undefeated BYU. He nailed it. Josh and Daniel went 5-3 as well. Bobby and Bo Sox Brad went 4-4.

It should be noted that the undefeated record of 12 this past week is a first for Baby's Losers this season. A hearty congratulations!

I'd like to send a special thank you out to "Mr. Vegas" MiamiMitch, a longtime supporter of the contest, who went 6-2 for the week. Really appreciate your input Mitch.
