WWE News: Vince McMahon Loses a Major Ally and Media Partner

Several sources, including wrestlinginc.com, are reporting that long-time WWE supporter Dick Ebersol has resigned from NBC.

Ebersol is a friend of McMahon's. He played a huge part in the creation of Saturday Night's Main Event, along with co-founding the ill-fated XFL. He also helped McMahon upgrade the then WWF's TV production.

Ebersol said the following about his departure: "It has been a sincere privilege to tell so many remarkable stories that have inspired me throughout my entire career. Some of my favorite memories come from reading letters and talking to viewers who also have been moved by such powerful stories."

This is hopefully not a huge blow to the WWE, as they continue to make money and produce ratings for NBC Universal.

It will be intriguing to see how things will turn out since cable giant Comcast is now majority owner of NBC Universal—especially since the WWE broadcasts four different shows on three NBC Universal properties.

Ebersol leaves big shoes to fill, and will be missed by both companies.

Let me know what you think. Is this a big deal or just another executive stepping down from another conglomerate?
