Tony Kornheiser vs. Colts Owner Jim Irsay and the PTI Host's Dumbest Quotes
If the Washington Post's Tony Kornheiser is good for anything it's a controversial soundbite or quote every few months.
Kornheiser finds himself in the news again today after calling Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay a "complete bozo."
Mr. Irsay responded by tweeting that Kornheiser is "a mean spirited chump."
History would show that Mr. Irsay is correct.
Kornheiser v. Slate Magazine
1 of 7
""Kornheiser plugged his life-inspired sitcom, Listen Up, on Sept. 14 but hasn't quoted an actual person since Sept. 1."
- Stephen Rodrick, Slate Magazine
"
And with that the first shot was fired.
Kornheiser is well known for criticizing, well, everything. But he's never handled criticism well.
In fact, after Rodrick's piece was published, Kornheiser tried to get him fired.
Kornheiser v. Mike Golic
2 of 7
"I just want to wring (Mike) Golic's neck and hang him up over the back of a shower rod like a duck."
- Tony Kornheiser, February 2006
What prompted Kornheiser to go on the offensive against a fellow ESPN co-worker?
Golic expressed criticism that Kornheiser had never played professional football and therefore did not know the game well enough to commentate.
Kornheiser v. Hispanic People
3 of 7
"“I took high-school Spanish, and that either means ‘nobody is going to touch him’ or ‘could you pick up my dry cleaning in the morning.’”
- Tony Kornheiser, Monday Night Football, September 15, 2008
"
Tony Kornheiser established what would become a string of racial and sexist remarks, leaving many to question his stance on polarizing issues that should ultimately never be mentioned during a football telecast.
Kornheiser v. Hannah Storm
4 of 7
"Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She's got on red go-go boots and a catholic school plaid skirt. Way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now. And she's got on her typically very, very tight shirt. So she looks like she's got sausage casing wrapping around her upper body. I mean, I know she's very good, and I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won't ... But, Hannah Storm, come on now! Stop! What are you doing? ... [She's] what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point."
"—Tony Kornheiser, February 2010"
Kornheiser's most controversial statement to date was again aimed at a fellow co-worker at ESPN. This time female sideline anchor Hannah Storm.
ESPN suspended Kornheiser over these remarks.
Kornheiser v. The World
5 of 7
"The last time I looked, the roads were made for automobiles...We're going to be dominated as if this was Beijing by hundreds of thousands of bicyclists...They all wear … my God … with the little water bottle in the back and the stupid hats and their shiny shorts. They are the same disgusting poseurs that in the middle of a snowstorm come out with cross-country skiing on your block. Run 'em down...Let them use the right, I’m okay with that. I don’t take my car and ride on the sidewalk because I understand that’s not for my car… Why do these people think that these roads were built for bicycles? ... They dare you to run them down.”
— Tony Kornheiser, March 2010
Lance Armstrong summed it up best by saying,
Disgusting, ignorant, foolish. What a complete f-ing idiot."
Kornheiser v. Indianapolis Colts Jim Irsay
6 of 7
""Jimmy Irsay, who inherited his team. Worked very hard in the American way. He was in what Dan Jenkins used to call 'The son business.' He inherits a team, and now he says, 'Jeff Saturday and I could hang out, we could go clubbing, we could work this out on a napkin at Ralph's Boathouse."
— Kornheiser, May 2011
"
And with perhaps the best comeback ever, Jim Irsay tweeted,
"When he can win 115 games n a decade, build a top 3 stadium,win n host a Super Bowl,then he can chirp! I think he used 2 b Bill Tobin's mailman…but that would b an insult 2 mail men! I just droppin' knowledge…"
Kornheiser V. Sally Jenkins?
7 of 7
"“I read Sally’s shew-like, hysterical column in which she just bangs the owners around, constantly, constantly, constantly. I’m really sick of that.”
— Kornheiser, May 2011
"
Did anyone else just have a WTF moment?
Kornheiser is referring to an article by The Washington Post's Sally Jenkins, which criticized NFL owners.
Seemingly no big deal, right?
Tony again shows his true colors by going on the offensive and using an arguably sexist remark toward Jenkins.
Jenkins clarified that she and Kornheiser are friends and that she wasn't offended, but the ensuing coverage still proves the man remains a controversial lightning rod with his questionable comments.
