TUF 8: A House Divided

Dorothy WillisOct 18, 2008

Well, now that everybody is buzzing about UFC 89, I am going to try to recapture my "lost" article from the evening the "CONTINUE" button on B/R malfunctioned.

I had watched the latest offering of the "Life in the TUF House" and the fight for that week, and while the fight was just so much nothing, there were parts of the episode that were truly remarkable.

First of all Anderson Silva's debut in an "English speaking role" as a guest trainer for the Red team and for his good friend Nogueira. He was fantastic, and his English was perfect!

(Boy was I surprised when he was interviewed through an interpreter at UFC 89 tonight).

The exercises Anderson put the guys through and his striking and sparring with each of them had the guys so excited that they were the happiest I had seen them; and he worked them hard for the three days he was there (which I learned from another blog by the spontaneous happy hugger).

Then, of course my whole mood was blown when after learning of the house pranks, and how they were interferring with the fighters ability to sleep the night before their fights, Pop Stankie and Nog decided a trip to the house was necessary.

Off course the Red team received the visit and lecture to cease and desist with the pranks very well; their respect for Pops and Nog was visible.

Unfortunately the less mature and reasonable Blue team was absolutely rude.

I was left chewing my cheek and wishing for some old fashion attitude changing via Pops and Nog. I am sure that like yours truly, they grew up with "spare the rod and spoil the child", and ear boxing for infractions of the rules as well as for disrespecting your elders.

Fortunately, or unfortunately if you are a cheek chewer like me, Nog and Pops have much more forebearance than I, and they left without "cleaning house."

Because the Blue team was so ticked off at the suggestions they were given to lay off pranks that keep the fighters from sleeping the night of their fight, the team promised to do "much worse" than just peeing on pillows next time.

If the blue team should start throwing feces at the red team next Wednesday, I will not be at all happy with them.

As a nurse I have seen and had to deal with way too much sh*t, and do not find any humor in it at all. I am certainly disgusted , especially with Krystof (or whatever his name is--he was obnoxious) and the other white haired guy who is NOT Junie, but on the same evolutionary level as him (read apes).

If it were within my power, the blue team would suddenly find themselves behind enemy lines in Iraq and a similar number of our real life heroes and warriors would be living in luxury in the Las Vegas desert in the TUF house.

Why, you may wonder, would an elderly grandmother do that?

"Because experience keeps a dear school, but a fool will learn in no other" (Benjamin Franklin).

These guys need to realize that in a real battle you rely on others, even if not in the same team, to watch each others backs and to not F--- with each other.

And further more, I am now and probably forever, against Frank Mir. I know that the coaches on this show are not prone to becoming best buddies, but the way Mir reacted when Nogueira came to him as a gentlemen suggesting that Mir, as the coach, should talk to his blue team, Mir turned his back on him and walked away.

So much for coaching young men on how to be gentlemen and conduct themselves to the benefit of both teams. I no longer have any respect for Mr. Mir.

I have been a coach and know how important respect is for an athlete to learn and use in competition and in life.

And now my readers will know without asking, who I am for in the battle of the coaches.
