BJ Penn Joins YardBarker But Does Not Post—Why?

Dorothy WillisOct 18, 2008

Good heavens, it is just like being back in grade school again!

Could Yard Barker be the scene of a new type of showdown for BJ Penn and Georges St. Pierre?

A popularity contest, of all things?

I reported earlier at the end of August, if I recall correctly, that there was a new blogger in the neighborhood, specifically Georges St. Pierre, who was officially blogging on YB rather than his own site.

Well, GSP, as we all call him, has had fantastic success on the Yard receiving over 100 comments or more per blog.

Georges' articles are very interesting and give inside glimpses of his life and travels, his thoughts, diet and training regimen in a chatty manner with a charming French-Canadian accent.

He has over 200 fans listed during his short stint there, which has been less than three months. I have been here for over a year and have half as many fans, but I can understand his universal appeal; plus, Georges is very cordial and much less opinionated. He has even admitted to "liking BJ Penn," something I could never do (without lightning striking me dead).

So today as I checked "over there" in the Yard for any messages, what do I see? A notice by another 100% confirmed athlete, that BJ Penn has joined the Yard.

So now I,with my "suspicious" anti-BJ mind, am left thinking: why?

Georges wrote an article announcing his presence and intentions of making YB his "official" blog space and a very nice first article it was. I was so excited to read it that I strayed from B/R and posted an article welcoming Georges to the neighborhood.

Georges has posted eight very long, information filled blogs which are very upbeat and cheerful. He must be the best natured MMA fighter in the world.

The response to the GSP blogs has been, as I have mentioned, phenomenal. And rightly so, considering the quality of his blogs.

Now BJ turns up. He has his own blog site which crashed after his fight with Jens Pulver. He ran out of the Octagon after winning the fight and refusing to be interviewed in the ring, yelling for fans to check his blog site to get his reactions. Thus the crash.

And he has not posted on YB yet. So why is he there? Could it be that he is there only because Georges is? Will the Yard become the site of a popularity contest of BJ's choosing, in hopes of beating Georges before their fight on January 31, 2009?

Well, since I have gotten tons of BJ Penn fans complaining about the anti-Penn opinions expressed in my articles here, I think BJ should have chosen this site for his popularity contest, and not Yard Barker.

If you are listening BJ, you have a bigger fan base waiting for you here.

And one very opinionated old lady. So come on over!
