Week 6 Pickups

 Quarterbacks

Brad Johnson (Cowboys) - With starting QB Tony Romo out up to 5 weeks due a broken pinkie the backup Brad Johnson is expected to start the next three games. Johnson is the lone Cowboy on the roster who has Superbowl ring. This is the second season for the savvy veteran in the Dallas offense and should have no problem running the offense. TE Jason Witten is fifth in the NFL with 497 receiving yards and receiver Terrell Owens is tied for first in the league with five TD catches. The Cowboys also acquired WR Roy Williams in a trade yesterday.  Johnson has a favorable matchup this week against a soft Rams secondary.

Jeff Garcia (Bucs) - Garcia was efficient filling in for an injured Brian Griese last week in a win against the Panthers. Garcia completed 15-of-20 passes for 173 yards and a TD. More importantly he did not turn the ball over and should do well against Seattle this weekend. The Seahawks have allowed 151 points which is 27th in the league and only have one interception in the past three weeks. Veteran WR Joey Galloway is expected back and is a favorite target for Garcia.

Runningbacks

Derrick Ward (Giants) - Ward carried the ball for a season high 10 times for 101 yards against the Browns on Monday. He is a must-have handcuff for starter Brandon Jacobs. The Giants play the 49ers this week which could mean extended carries for Ward if the game gets out of hand. The 49ers are allowing 124 rushing yards per game.

Dominic Rhodes (Colts) - Rhodes came in for an injured Joseph Addai (Hamstring) and rushed for 71 yards and a TD on 25 carries. Addai is out 2-4 weeks and will miss the game against the Packers this week.  Against a stingy Ravens defense Rhodes broke off a highlight 31-yard run.

Wide Receivers

Steve Smith (Giants) - Had his best game of the season catching a career high nine passes for 94 yards. He was targeted 10 times and now has 22 receptions on the season. He faces a soft 49ers secondary that 26th in the NFL with 1358 passing yards allowed.

Devin Hester (Bears) - Hester has caught two touchdown passes the past three weeks and has caught 11 passes for 153 yards the past two weeks. He has favorable games coming up against the Vikings and Lions. With WR Brandon Lloyd still out to injury Hester and Rashied Davis have picked up the slack.

 Tight End

Mercedes Lewis (Jags) - The Jags have a bye in Week 7 but Lewis could be a useful option the next week against the Browns. Lewis was targeted five times last week and caught three passes for 64 yards against the Broncos. The 6’6″ TE scored on a 30 yard reception and showed flashes of his upside.

Kicker

Josh Brown (Rams) - Brown had his best game of the season converting all four field goal attempts including a 51 yarder. He kicked a 49-yarder as time expired to give the Rams the first win of the season. He has a strong matchup against the Cowboys this week in the dome.

Defense

Jets- The Jets defense has been much improved this season with the additions of DT Kris Jenkins and OLB Calvin Pace. The Jets have 10 sacks and caused 10 turnovers the past two weeks. They are 4th in the league with 17 sacks and tied for second with eight forced fumbles. They are allowing only 69 rushing yards per game and have favorable matchups against the Raiders and Chiefs the next two weeks.
