WWE WrestleMania 28: 10 Matchups We Want to See More Than the Rock vs John Cena
Happy hump day bleachers
It is that time already? The time to start hyping and planning the next show of shows?
Apparently so.
We are all well aware that, in a few months time, John Cena and The Rock will finally meet in the ring at WrestleMania XXVIII. Whether that will be for the WWE championship is still too far off to determine, but let's face it, with Cena champion right now, the odds could very well be in his favor.
To our sorrow...that would mean we'd have to endure almost a whole year of red, pink, blue, white and purple shirts with "Never Give Up" on them. Sigh!
I don't know why there is so much hype for this match. I mean, let's face it, we already had a few encounters between the two just recently. They turned out alright with The Rock clearly decimating Cena on the mic, but SummerSlam could have been just good a place to have them fight.
The idea of watching John Cena hold the title all this time is like taking a bullet! Oh! the pain! His victory came at the expense of The Miz no less, so I am no happy camper right now.
Nevertheless, alot of things can happen between now and April 1st, 2012. Personally, I think there are many other matches that could easily be as interesting...some with The Rock and some yes, with John Cena.
Let's take a look shall we...and then we discuss..
What WrestleMania 27 Lacked: A Money in the Bank Ladder Match
1 of 11
Yes my friends, this classic WrestleMania opener is just as cool as John Cena vs The Rock.
There wasn't one this year...need I say more?
Since there is now a pay-per-view event of the same name, I truly doubt it will be on next year's show and that is unfortunate.
Imagine the best high flyers and stunt men proving to everyone why they also deserve a chance to be on top of the world.
I could see the following superstars blowing our minds away:
John Morrison
Sin Cara
Evan Bourne
Rey Mysterio
Daniel Bryan
Kofi Kingston
Zack Ryder
Tyson Kidd
Justin Gabriel
Dolph Ziggler
Hang a contract or a title belt up there and they'd do just about anything to get it. I know I would.
What WrestleMania 28 Should Have: An Undisputed WWE Championship Match
2 of 11
It has been long enough. This charade needs to end and so does the World heavyweight Championship's existence.
There is only one place I can think of that carries TWO world titles. Ridiculous! After all the trouble WWE went through with WCW back in the early 2000s you'd think they've learned the lesson.
There was a time when separate champions were necessary because of the size of the roster, but those days are gone. Time to join the two titles again.
I could swear we would have had the match this year but I was wrong.
Wouldn't it be great if every match counted on a card? There are some that say having one champion makes some of the mid-carders pointless and without direction. Well, until the World Championship was separated, everyone seemed to be doing just fine.
One top belt would mean the other ones would be more important. Send some guys after those.
I would enjoy a match between Orton and Christian just as much if it were for the prestigious Intercontinental championship.
Imagine such a headline for Mania XXVIII:
There can be only one OR Who will reign supreme?
WWE Champion (Wrestler X) vs. World Heavyweight Champion (Wrestler Y)
A Lumberjack match with former world champs and legends serving as the lumberjacks. Then you have the winner applauded and cheered on by everyone under stars and fireworks.
Way better than some match between Rocky and Cena. Hell, I'd have them as part of the boys around the ring.
Who's to say John Cena isn't in the match itself?
Attitude Era Rewind One: Triple H vs. the Rock
3 of 11For all you die-hard attitude era fans out there, this one would be for you.
I would enjoy this very much as the two had an outstanding rivalry back in the day. I would sit there every week and tune into Raw so I can listen to some of the best promos in the business and remember why a proper build-up to a feud is essential.
WrestleMania XXVIII is in Miami, so if Cena was to fight Rock, do you really want your hometown boy to lose? Really? Even if it was for the title or passing the torch, there are other places to lose rather than home soil.
There are many great moments left to happen in both Triple H and The Rock's careers, having them duke it out on the grandest stage of them all as a tribute to their legacy is one of them.
I am certain this one would get nasty. All to our pleasure.
Chris Jericho: Have Him Anywhere on the Card
4 of 11
Please save us Chris!
He needs to come home soon and whip someone's behind. My guess: Randy Orton.
After that punt to the head, there would be hell to pay.
We love him so much. It seems like the perfect place to have him in the ring. Definitely, taking on Orton would truly be a great match.
As it stands now, I am sure he will make his long-awaited return later this year and yes, we will have an encounter with The Viper but with enough preparation this could be an instant classic.
The Miz could also be a great potential opponent. They have similarities, or we could say Miz has learned alot from Jericho, so perhaps it could be headed that way by then.
Anywhere you have Chris Jericho is already 100 percent better than many matches we have seen lately.
So break the walls down Chris and come back soon, we need you!
Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara: Battle of the Luchadors
5 of 11
Wow!
That is the first word that came out of my mouth when I thought about this one.
We've had Spy vs. Spy, StormShadow vs. Snake-Eyes and now this.
Rey Mysterio is a veteran, no, a legend.
Sin Cara is the sensation of the moment and heir-apparent to the master of the 619's legacy. They must do battle at least one time in their career.
A match like this must not happen at a pointless gimmick event. It must happen at the show of shows, nothing less!
I have shivers just thinking about it. They are spectacular. What other words can I use? I find this one to be extremely more entertaining than John Cena vs. The Rock.
So they aren't as big, so what? remember WrestleMania III? It wasn't Hogan vs André that blew our minds away, but Savage vs Steamboat for the Intercontinental title.
Lesson learned I hope.
Attitude Era Rewind Two: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. CM Punk
6 of 11Alright, so it isn't totally an Attitude Era rewind, but half!
There have been "tweets" between them, rumors on Stone Cold's return and even mentions of then having a match. OK, now make it happen.
CM Punk is an extraordinary character full of potential and has yet to achieve true glory in WWE.
Stone Cold Steve Austin is the superstar that has brought the WWE to where it is today. It is because of him alone it won the war against WCW, and because of him alone Mr McMahon is a multi-time billionnaire.
They are polar opposites. Punk is straight-edged and Austin is well, obviously not. Their characters deliver the merchandise everytime and I am certain this would please the so-called "IWC."
Would you like to see this match? I would...any day of the week. Buyrates would skyrocket if this was announced for April 1st next year.
Want to bet against me?
Beth Phoenix vs. Kharma: Clash of the Titanesses
7 of 11
I love this image of The Glamazon, she truly looks like a primal force.
So does Kharma.
Notice how the sudden addition of the dark destroyer has suddenly made you all tune in to the divas matches every week?
I have always been behind them and for me, this is just as powerful an encounter as would The Rock vs. John Cena.
They must collide. There can be only one super-diva and after the dust settles I not even sure we'd have a clear winner.
Beth Phoenix is amazing and Kharma is awesome. Interesting choice of words you may think but true nonetheless.
Inevitably they will meet. The question is: When?
There are only a handful of divas who can stand in the ring with either of these women so imagine the first lock up. I would get my crash helmet out real fast.
Both of these beautiful women know how to work a match. They would not disappoint, I promise you this.
Stone Cold vs. Randy Orton: Which Snake Is Deadlier?
8 of 11I love the Stunner on Cena!
Basically, this pairing is the other side of the Cena-Rock match. You have, on one hand, Stone Cold, and the other is Randy Orton, the other top guy in WWE right now.
What makes it more interesting, however, is the fact that both Austin and Orton are cold, calculating and treacherous.
You turn your head away for but a second and snap! RKO or Stunner, which ever one you prefer.
They both have a cool persona. The Rattlesnake, The Viper, what is this? G.I.Joe? COBRA!!!!!
Funny how both are still living and in shape, both are in WWE right now yet there hasn't been a real encounter between them.
Could it be in the works? Steve Austin has clearly mentioned during his recent interview with the UK Sun that he isn't interested in a full time schedule. Participating in Tough Enough and his occasional in-ring presence seem to suffice.
It doesn't rule out another participation at WrestleMania does it?
Who better to serve as opponent for him than Randy Orton. A man sometimes dubbed as "the next Stone Cold."
By the way, I hate it when people call someone the next "Wrestler X." Everyone is their own person and Orton is the number one Orton and not the number two Austin. Thanks!
The Undertaker vs. John Cena: The Streak's Greatest Challenge?
9 of 11
This is whom I want John Cena to be involved with next year. Forget The Rock.
The Undertaker and his undefeated streak are the trademarks of WrestleMania now. It has been so for years and since his ring days seem to be numbered then this match must happen next year in Miami.
There is no more time.
How many have dreamed of this? It would be out of this world and so much more important.
It is John Cena, it is The Undertaker and it is the streak. These are some, if not the most important words in WWE vocabulary at the moment and possibly the future. There must be a true belief that the streak would be in danger.
Mind you, it will never end, but it would be so close. In my mind, this may very well be the only other possible way to have that long-desired Cena "heel" turn.
If "The Champ" refuses to lay down for "The Phenom," I'd expect riots! He would be so hated the ratings would go through the roof.
Should Cena work this match and deliver a great performance like I know he can, then I would have nothing but respect for the man.
Alright so I am taking bids right away.
John Cena vs. The Undertaker
Who's in?
The Rock vs. the Miz: Yes, I Wish That!
10 of 11Now that we've got all the other matches covered, let me get my pick out!
I want The Miz vs. The Rock.
Miz is my favorite and the rightful WWE Champion. Sigh! I got it all out now.
Now let us get one thing perfectly straight. The WWE is all about entertainment. The Rock is pure entertainment. He is a star.
The Miz has that same potential.
He says it best himself. We all know he works the hardest and plugs the company and its products everywhere he goes.
Give him some movie roles and you would have your money's worth I'm sure.
Now back to the match, I would stay up all night watching these two dish it out on the mic. I think they'd fuel on each other and the live crowd would eat it all up.
We had a small dose of that the last few months but I want more.
Should the match between Cena and The Rock actually happen then you can bet you own mother The Rock would have to have a match or two in between. Enter The Miz.
He is still treated like a top priority in WWE and needs something big now that he is not holding the title.
The Rock is big.
One could see it as a kind of passing the torch. Maybe not so much as to carry the company, but as The Rock helping out of the next great superstars before having that great match with Superman.
The Rock and The Miz in a feud...can you say Monday nights are must-see TV?
Never Give Up WWE: No Matter What Happens I Hope You Bring It!
11 of 11
There is so much time left to wonder what will truly be the final match of WrestleMania XXVIII on April 1st, 2012.
You have your choice of matches and I have mine but rest assured, WWE will deliver and at best we will watch a phenomenal encounter between John Cena and The Rock on the show of shows.
We may very well be surprised as to how good it will truly be but in the meantime we must be patient and keep our eyes open because waiting in the wings in summertime and that spells only one thing:
SUMMERSLAM!
