Top 10 MMA Fights You'd Love To See In '09

Sean SchimlingOct 16, 2008

I don't know about anyone else, but i know there are several "Dream" fights i would love to see take PLACE IN 09. These are just the top 10....Feel free to comment and/or make your own list... Here's mine:

(Note These Fights Would All Take Place in the UFC,Be Reasonable)

1.Anderson Silva V.S. GSP

TOP NEWS

UFC 319: Du Plessis vs. Chimaev
Colts Jaguars Football

This fight would be a true MMA fans dream. Anderson Silva arguably the best p4p fighter in the world, against GSP one of the most complete/dynamic fighters in the world. Granted GSP would have to beat BJ Penn, but if he did this fight could be huge PPV numbers, and would also be a huge fight for MMA in general. This could easily be the fight of the year in 2009 if it does happen, but we may only see the fight happen Via UFC 2009:Undisputed.

2.BJ Penn V.S. Urijah Faber

Now this fight would be another dream for MMA purists. Although BJ would be coming from a welterweight showdown with GSP, having to cut weight. Urijah would be having to gain weight so in the end they would both be even. Urijah Faber is too big of a name for the WEC, and would be a huge name for the UFC to bring in. The beauty in this fight would be that urijah wouldn't need any build up fight, hes already a marquee name. This fight has classic written all over it, but again we might not ever find out.

3.Quinton "Rampage" Jackson V.S. Forrest Griffin 2

There are 3 reasons why this is on my list.1.This fight could happen no matter what happens at UFC 92.2.The first fight was a huge PPV draw, and most likely will happen again. 3.many thought Rampage won the first fight, and Forrest wants to prove its wasn't a fluke decision. Now there are several ways this could happen, the most likely being both fighters win at UFC 92. But if both lose it could still happen, and if one wins one loses then we may have to wait, but it WILL happen sometime....mark my words!

4.Chuck Liddell V.S. Brock Lesnar

This fight has HUGE i mean HUGE PPV potential. Both fighters are on opposite sides, one on the come up, one on the decline. Chuck Liddell is still a big name and Brock Lesnar is also a big name, both fighters are PPV magic, but them together i don't see any less than 1.5 million buys. Chuck is over-weight anyways, and would be able to do this with ease. A win for Brock means stardom awaits, and a win for Chuck shows hes still a star. If UFC is smart this fight happens late '09....If not hello UFC 2009: Undisputed(again).

5.Paulo Filho V.S. Rich Franklin

I know Rich is more a LHW than a MW, but this fight screams title shot. Although Anderson and Paulo said they'd never face each other, if Paulo wins they'd be forced to fight or one moves up in weight class. If Rich wins it means a 3rd title shot, which would be huge for UFC, and may actually be like Shamrock/Ortiz 3,and be on Spike TV. This fight could be a huge earner for UFC PPV wise Paulo is a huge WEC name, and Rich has proven he can sell a PPV by himself. With WEC's MW's coming over this fight seems destined to happen.

6.Rashad Evans V.S. Lyoto Machida

This fight could very well happen if Rashad beats Forrest in December, and Lyoto beats Thiago when they fight. Both fighters together couldn't sell a PPV,but combine them with a Serra/Hughes match, and you got an event and a half. These are two of the new-age superstars, both passed to stardom with wins over Chuck Liddell(Evans),and Tito Ortiz(Machida). This fight could very well set the var for the LHW division for the next few years.

7.Wanderlii Silva V.S. Dan Henderson 3

The first two fights happened in Pride FC, with each fighter winning once. This fight could mean one of the two could get a LHW title shot, and be a deciding 3rd fight. Both fighters are big names and very marketable, though it may not seem as a big fight, like i said before combine it with a Lesnar/Mir 2 Fight, and BOOM, PPV history.

8.Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria V.S. Randy Couture

After Randy dissed Nog, saying he wasnt enough to stay in the HW division, this fight could prove to be an all time classic. Also this fight could be the one to make the Fedor/Couture fight happen, if randy wins Fedor is gonna want to fight Randy more than ever, to prove he is the real p4p king. If Nog wins this could mean a 3rd Nog V.S. Fedor, its an unlikely scenario but it could actually happen.

9.Matt Hughes V.S. BJ Penn 3

BJ is obviously the favorite in this fight, but Matt Hughes has alot to prove, and this would also end a 3 fight trilogy. Both men don't like each other, and if Hughes does fight Serra and wins, which is what i think will happen,Hughes will feel re-energized, and want to get 1 more shot at the title before retirement. This fight also has Huge PPV potential with both men having strong fan bases.

10.Quinton "Rampage" Jackson V.S. Anderson Silva

This may be the most unlikely fight to happen on my list, but if it did, The numbers would be HUGE. This could be a super fight for the ages, both men can strike and i believe Rampage could cause huge problems for the Spider, but Anderson does throw those infamous knees which Quinton has been KO'd By twice. But i think this more mature Rampage has a better chin, also Anderson's chin hasn't been tested yet,and Rampage would be a pretty damn good test.Although this may be just that a "Dream" fight, there is a small, small, small chance it could happen.

Honorable Mentions:

Brock Lesnar V.S. Kimbo Slice

Anderson Silva V.S. Chuck Liddell

GSP V.S. Matt Hughes 3

Lyoto Machida V.S. Chuck Liddell

Frank Mir V.S. Tim Sylvia 2

Urijah Faber V.S. Miguel Torres

Carlos Condit V.S. Thiago Alves

Wanderlii Silva V.S. Forrest Griffin

Chuck Liddell V.S. Randy Couture 4

Tito Ortiz V.S. Forrest Griffin 2 (Just For Fun)
