UFC 134 Rio: B.J. Penn Wants a Fight and Looking To Grab a Spot in Brazil

Dwight WakabayashiMay 11, 2011

B.J. Penn is looking for a fight and wants UFC 134 Rio to be the place to do it.

"The Prodigy" has a long and strong history of training and close ties in Brazil and was pleasantly surprised to revisit those ties a couple weeks ago upon his arrival in Toronto for the UFC 129 event.

Penn told Fighters Only Magazine,"I just arrived in the hotel and met Anderson Silva who told me he was going to spar with Junior (Jose Aldo). When I found out Dede Pederneiras was there, I put my training clothes on straight away and went to train with them."

Penn is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Nova Uniao head coach Andre Pederneiras. He has healed and stayed active in training following an injury that forced him to pull out of a rematch with Jon Fitch scheduled for July

Penn also tells Fighters Only that if he gets a slot on the Rio card, he has already arranged to go to Brazil a month early and train in preparation.

This is potentially exciting news for the Brazilian fans looking for a stacked card on August 27, at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro. The card headlines countryman and Middleweight champion Anderson Silva in a long awaited rematch vs. Japanese fighter Yushin Okami.

Brazilian fans have long been discussing the event on-line and despite the wealth of top Brazilian talent on the card, they are dying to see a top name fighter from outside the country added to the card. Rumours have Cro Cop facing Rodrigo Nogueira, which would deliver for the fans.

How about adding Penn vs. Koscheck to the mix?
