QB: Week 6 Fantasy Recap

With just one game left to play (NYG vs. Cleveland), we’ll take a look back at the fantasy studs and duds at the QB position from the previous Sunday.

Studs:

1. Peyton Manning. He’s back… Against one of the top defenses in the league, he torched them through the air for 270+ yards and 3TDs. It could’ve been more, but a 4th long TD was called back due to a questionable call. This bodes well for Manning owners going forward.

2. Drew Brees. Man is this guy special. Playing without top targets Marquees Colston, Jeremy Shockey and David Patten, he was 26 for 30 for 320 yards and 3TDs. Can’t wait to see what he does when he gets his regulars back.

3. Aaron Rodgers. Playing against an emotionally, as well as physically beaten Seahawks’ team, Rodgers threw for 268 and 2TDs and ran in another score. Rodgers has shown that the drop off in the passing game from #4 to him is almost non-existent. Look for him to continue to play well going forward.

4. Tony Romo. His numbers only look good because he threw for 321 yards and had 3 TDs, two of 50 yards and longer. In truth, he played a horrible game, turning the ball over, taking sacks, etc., and was one of the main reasons Dallas lost, but in the fantasy world, it was a top performance. Unfortunately for Romo owners news came out today that he has a broken pinkie and will miss the next 4 weeks.

Duds:

1. Jake Delhomme. What happened here? 242 yards are nice, although most came in garbage time, but 3 picks? That’s uncalled for. Not a good day from Delhomme and the rest of his offensive counterparts.

2. Brett Favre. He still threw for 189 and a TD, but he threw two picks. In a game at home against the lowly Bengals, you’d expect more from the future HOFer than the effort Sunday. While he may still be adjusting to Mangini’s system, something still isn’t right.

3. Jason Campbell. He did know that the team he was facing yesterday was the lowly Rams, right? 208 yards and 0TDs is a terrible day fantasy wise. I think we all expected the Skins to rely heavily on the run because we all expected Washington to be up big, but when the game didn’t play out that way, and they were actually down 16-7 in the 4th, you’d expect Campbell and the air game to step up. It did not.

4. Matt Cassel. Playing against a motivated team, in hostile territory, can affect any QB’s performance, but Cassel clearly was rattled vs. San Diego and played a very poor game. He still managed 200 yards, mostly on short pass plays, but threw an ill-advised pick and was lucky to have a few fumbles of his recovered by teammates so as not to lead to an even worse fantasy day.
