Week 7: WR Fantasy Rankings

Must Starts:

1. Reggie Wayne vs. Green Bay. He must be salivating at the opportunity of facing GB’s secondary. As mentioned earlier, the Pack are playing without one of its top corners, Al Harris, have surrendered a lot of yards through the air, and now welcome Peyton - and a healthy Peyton I might add - to Green Bay. We see this game being a very high scoring affair and Wayne, who might be the best route runner in the game today, going off. Look for him to eclipse 100-yards and score at least 2 TDs.

2. Plaxico Burress vs. San Francisco. The Giants were embarrassed on Monday night. Their sense of entitlement, after winning a championship and rattling off four straight W’s to start the season, is gone. Look for the G Men to get back to what works this Sunday: Eli to Plax. The Niners have one of the worst defenses in the game, or rather, architects of defense (Mike Nolan), and are leading the league in 40-yard pass plays allowed this season. Burress will be targeted early and often and get into the end zone at least once.

3. Andre Johnson vs. Detroit. Johnson has been on an absolute tear of late. He’s put up over 130 yards receiving in each of his last two games (309 total) and has scored in both contests too. Right now, he might be playing the best in the league at the position and we see that trend continuing this week. Detroit’s corners weren’t good in the 1st place, and now they have to show up at work knowing their 2nd best player was traded this week (WR Roy Williams) and their starting QB, Jon Kitna, was placed on IR. Not a lot of hope in the Motor City. Johnson should easily extend his 100-yard streak in this contest and get into the end zone once again.

4. Greg Jennings vs. Indianapolis. #85 has developed into quite a star in the land of Green Bay. After last year’s meteoric rise to the upper echelon of receivers, he’s continued that ascent, even with a new QB, and has been one of the top receivers/fantasy scorers in the league thus far. Against a porous Indianapolis’ D (don’t let last week fool you), Jennings should be able to abuse its corners and hit the century mark for the 4th time this season, while also notching his 5th TD of the year.

Sleepers:

1. Santonio Holmes vs. Cincinnati. This game has all the makings of a blowout. That’s usually not the case when it comes to a division rivalry, but without QB Carson Palmer leading the Bengals, we don’t see it being that close of a contest. In a game where we see the Steelers having a lot of success in the running game, we think it’ll set up the play-action nicely and that’s where Holmes comes into the picture. He has great deep speed and should be able to burn Cincy’s secondary for at least one long score.

2. Lee Evans vs. San Diego. If there’s been one area of the Chargers’ D that’s been abused consistently this season, it’s the secondary. The front 7’s inability to generate a pass rush this season has meant that the corners have had to stick with receivers far too long. The result has been solid games by opposing receivers; anyone remember Brandon Marshall’s effort in week 2? 18 catches for 166 and a TD… In this contest, we see Buffalo being able to control the Charger’s front 7 once again, giving time for Edwards/Losman to locate Evans for some long gains vs. Cromartie or Jammer. Look for him to go over the century mark and have a long TD in the process.
