Kelly Dwyer Strikes Out with Stephen Jackson Criticism
Kelly Dwyer must be watching the Golden State Warriors from another planet.
He wrote a column recently for Ball Don't Lie about the status of the Warriorsm, wondering if Chris Mullin is going to lose his job. In the column, Dwyer is quoted as saying that "Stephen Jackson [is] the most overrated name in the NBA game these days outside of Jason Kidd."
Really, Kelly? The most overrated name in the NBA? What have you been watching, Kelly? He also states this about Jackson—"he's also gone two years without getting into a fight in the parking lot of a strip club."
Let's start with the second quote. Do you really have to bring up the past to get a point across on why Jackson shouldn't get his contract reworked so he'll be around longer for the Warriors? Last time I checked, Tim Duncan called Jackson the ultimate teammate. He's also started a charity to help students out with a contest to go see a Warriors game.
Jackson also volunteered and donated time to helping the less fortunate in Africa. While suspended for the first seven games of last season, Jackson spent time in the Oakland community.
When Jackson was suspended, the Warriors struggled without him. Jackson does everything well—he can shoot, handle the ball, pass, and play defense. He is also the one who played the tough defense against Dirk Nowitzki when the Warriors took the Mavericks out in the first round.
Jackson almost delayed returning to the Warriors beause it was during a time that Matt Barnes' mother was dying and he offered him support.
Onto Kelly's second point about Jackson being overrated. Well, as stated, Jackson did missed some games in the beinning of the season. The Warriors started out 1-6 without Jackson. Jackson was named captain of the team and he lead the team very well. There's so many ex-teammates, current teammates, coaches, etc., who absolutely love Stephen Jackson.
So, Kelly, before writing a little column about Stephen Jackson, maybe you should do your research and stop living in the past. Yes, Jackson made mistakes—but he should be recognized as well for the good things he does with his life. If the Warriors are going to extend the contract of Stephen Jackson, just because he asked the team president for it doesn't mean he shouldn't be given one!
