UFC 131 Fight Card: 5 Reasons Why Junior Dos Santos Will Destroy Brock Lesnar

Jeffrey McKinneyMay 5, 2011

At UFC 131 Brock Lesnar will get a chance to become the No. 1 contender for the heavyweight title.

The only problem is he will have to go through Junior Dos Santos.

Dos Santos is 12-1 with eight knockouts.

Dos Santos has only went the distance once.

The two have traded wins back and forth on The Ultimate Fighter.

But many believe Brock Lesnar does not stand a chance come fight night. Here are five reasons why.

Dos Santos has more experience in MMA

Dos Santos began his MMA career a year earlier than Brock.

Yet as their records stand today, he has six more fights than him.

Dos Santos has seen many different fighters.

Although he has not faced someone with Brock’s wrestling ability, he has arguably faced tougher competition.

Dos Santos is a member of Black House Team

Black House is arguably one of the best gyms in the world.

Its members include the Nogueira brothers, Lyoto Machida, Ronaldo Souza, Mark Munoz, and two of the top pound for pound fighters in the world, Jose Aldo and Anderson Silva.

Dos Santos is a great fighter, but having a gym like that behind him makes him even better.

Add Steven Segal to the mix, and we may see Dos Santos do something we have never seen.

Dos Santos is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt

Although Dos Santos technically has three submission wins, only one is by an actual submission hold.

If Brock has any chance of winning this fight he will have to take it to the ground.

But that could be just as dangerous as standing.

We do not get to see much of Dos Santos’ ground game.

But since he trains with the Nogueiras and is a brown belt, I believe he might know a thing or two about fighting on the ground.

Dos Santos Has Better Stamina Than Brock

Lesnar has seemed like a different fighter since returning from illness.

His standing has not looked as crisp, his wrestling has not been much of an advantage, and his stamina, at least to me has not looked great.

He was able to outlast Shane Carwin, but there is no way he would have lasted five rounds with Cain Velasquez.

Dos Santos is built like Velasquez in the sense that he does not have a bunch of bulk slowing him down.

Dos Santo has a superior stand up game

This is the biggest reason Dos Santos will beat Brock.

Dos Santos has shown that he is willing to stand with anybody and beat them.

Eight of his wins are by TKO or KO.

So far only Roy Nelson has been able to withstand his punches.

Brock has shown a weak chin and subpar stand up in his last two fights.

If he tries to stand with Dos Santos, he will be knocked out.
