Shawn Daivari: Former WWE Star and X-Division Champ Returns

Gone Baby GoneMay 5, 2011

This title may seem familiar, as I wrote a similar one roughly a month ago referring to this same star's TNA return.

However, unlike that article, this one seems to pan out.

Several sources, including wrestlinginc.com, are reporting that Shawn Daivari was involved in a dark match for Tuesday's SmackDown! taping. In that match, he took on Ted DiBiase—ultimately DiBiase scored the victory.

This is interesting, as Daivari just wrestled for Ring of Honor not too long ago. He is also of small stature, and with the WWE's non-existent cruiser/lightweight division, there really doesn't seem to be a spot for him.

However, this could just be a one off, similar to Shelton Benjamin's dark match a few months ago.

Daivari was involved in several gimmicks during his WWE tenure, most notably as manager for the infamous Mohammed Hassan.

After Hassan was released, Daivari found himself managing The Great Khali. Then, once he and Khali's partnership ended, Daivari became a singles wrestler and a staple for the WWE's cruiserweight division.

Sadly, he was scripted to have a terrible losing streak and was later released from his WWE contract.

After some time of wrestling in the independent circuit, TNA picked up Davairi and repackaged him as Sheik Abdul Bashir. Bashir went on to become a force to be reckoned with within the X-Division and eventually captured the X-Division title.

Davairi's stay with TNA did not last long, as a year later he asked for his release. The request was due to a misunderstanding of who was in charge of TNA's talent.  Since then, Daivari has made himself available for independent bookings and, as mentioned, rumors of a TNA return started about a month ago.

I guess we will see what happens, as he is still young (27) and is a great worker, in my opinion.

Clearly Daivari was still not satisfied with TNA's current state of affairs, as he quickly denied the rumors and now appears to have signed with the WWE.
