Top 10 Party Sports

Zack PumerantzMay 4, 2011

While professional sports are fun to watch and exhilarating to emulate in the backyard with buddies, party sports bring out the true athlete.

From softball to ultimate frisbee, these sports only require a cold beer and a relaxed mindset.

Bereft of the strains of organized athletics, these activities bring together friends and often lead to a loss of inhibitions.

Through grueling strain and immense perspiration, teams will fight for their pride and the ultimate victory of beating their "bros."

Here is a list of the top 10 party sports.

Enjoy.

10. Corn Hole

1 of 10

Also known as corn toss, bean bag, bean toss, soft horseshoes and Indiana horseshoes, corn hole is the most harmless sport on this list.

Good for family outings and lazy afternoons in the sun, corn tossing is another fun activity to relax to.

If you get bored while playing, just say "corn hole" five times fast.

9. Ladder Toss

2 of 10

Also known as ladder ball, this sport features the same situation as KanJam.

Played by throwing two balls connected by a string onto a ladder, this simple game can be played right on the lawn while cooking steaks on the grill.

Just don't forget about the meat because this addicting game can subtly hold your attention.

8. Fishing

3 of 10

Perhaps the most calming sport on this list, fishing involves a pole, some string and plenty of free time.

While waiting for hungry fish to grab on the worm that is placed on the end of the hook, friends can marinate in the sun and enjoy each other's company.

A true American past time.

Don't forget cigars.

7. Golf: Preferably Hitting at the Range

4 of 10

With the constant stresses that occur on the golf course somewhat too intense for a party atmosphere, the driving range will have to suffice.

On a calm and cool afternoon, excited friends can blissfully line up and hit balls off of tees.

While some may struggle to keep the ball straight for one reason or another and others may not hit the ball more than 10 inches, the activity is free from pressure and intense competition.

The perfect activity to unwind to.

6. Ping Pong

5 of 10

A miniature version of tennis, ping pong is a pleasurable way to bond with someone.

While hitting a small plastic ball back and forth, two friends can talk and reminisce while attempting a hard spike once in awhile to make things interesting.

The pong ball can also be used to shoot in a triangle of cups filled with juice or soda.

What is in the cups is at the discretion of those playing.

But no bouncing.

5. KanJam

6 of 10

A game where two partners stand on separate sides, next to the other two partners, attempting to deflect their partner's frisbee toss into a can for points.

The team gets more points if a partner tosses the frisbee directly into the thin opening in front of the can.

While it sounds complex, this simple game is the best way to cater to a plethora of thirsty participants.

4. Frisbee

7 of 10

Don't be fooled by his age, this man is having a great time.

Seemingly mundane, this sport is more exciting than expected.

The concept of tossing a disk to one another just sounds like a perfect few hours with the buddies.

It can even be considered a thorough workout for the day.

Just don't close your eyes because a disk to the nose or forehead won't be exciting.

3. Volleyball

8 of 10

Thanks to Meet the Parents, we now know that this is the worst sport to play when meeting a girlfriend's family for the first time.

Although Ben Stiller is the perfect example of an ass-lete, beware of volleyball as it takes complete concentration and communication.

"You got it."

"Ok, I got it."

(ball hits the water)

"You didn't move, what happened?!"

"I thought you had it."

2. Kickball

9 of 10

There is nothing more satisfying than putting all one's energy into a nicely sized red ball (red not required).

It's even better when that ball is slowly rolling directly at him, and he has no chance at missing it.

Many players like to involve slight inebriation and some have even missed the ball as a result.

Some pitchers like to put some curve on their underhand roll, making it difficult for those less-than stellar players who are just trying to have a relaxing time.

1. Softball

10 of 10

One thing these sports have in common is a large ball and a lack of immense difficulty.

Softball is a step above kickball in difficulty because the ball has more room to dodge, dip, duck, dive and dodge.

Since softball is collegiate sport and kickball is not, we must give it the slight edge.

The ball gets a lot smaller as the game goes on.

Watch out for the knuckleball.
