Nick Diaz Wants Fight with Georges St. Pierre
After Georges St. Pierre defeated Jake Shields, GNP-TV.com interviews Shields teammate and current Strikeforce Welterweight Champion, Nick Diaz, about a possible fight with Georges St. Pierre.
When asked about a potential matchup between him and GSP, the always entertaining Diaz said “Put me in there with that guy.” “You had him in there with my partner, look what happened to him.” “What do you think is going to happen when you put him in there with me?”
After defeating Jake Shields, GSP has basically cleaned out the UFC’s Welterweight Division. There had long been talk of him moving up to Middleweight and challenging Anderson Silva, but GSP has seemed even less receptive to that idea lately. If he does choose to stay at Welterweight, Diaz may be the only fight of any interest to fans.
As for how a fight between Diaz and GSP would go, Diaz says he has better boxing of the two. He went on to say GSP would, “try to go for takedowns… but I saw him out there… he’s not much for size…I don’t know if that will be the smartest plan for him either.” “I feel like it will be real hard for him. I feel like I’m ready for that fight. I’ve been ready for that fight. I just feel like I’m more ready for it now.”
The “not much for size” comment was interesting, considering GSP is one of the bigger, stronger fighters at 170 pounds.
Diaz goes on to say that he is still considering a move to pro boxing. He says he’s tired of fighting “these chumps”, and makes it sound like it’s either a fight with GSP or a move to pro boxing.
Let’s see if Dana White can somehow put this together. Nick Diaz wants it. The fans want it.
Will Diaz really go to pro boxing if he doesn’t get the fight with GSP? Does Zuffa really want to find out?
