UFC News: Cain Velasquez Is Ready To Fight at UFC 136 in Houston, TX
Cain Velasquez was a guest today on The MMA Hour and spoke with Ariel Helwani about his injury recovery and who he’s rooting for between UFC heavyweight contenders Brock Lesnar and Jr. Dos Santos.
Velasquez says that he’s “dying to get in the Octagon again” and feels he’s 90-95 percent recovered.
Since he’s not going 100 percent in training, he has been working on technique and footwork, mostly.
He says that, “to be safe,” he will be 100 percent again “in 2 months."
The doctor was really impressed with how well Cain is getting his motion back and that he won’t have any trouble getting back to 100 percent and kicking ass again.
His fiancée gave him moral support throughout his recovery and during bouts of depression due to him not being able to fight.
In regards to how the injury occurred, Velasquez said, “I don’t remember when or how I hurt it,” but says “It was during the Lesnar fight.”
Velasquez told Helwani that he does watch TUF Season 13 show to keep tabs on his possible opponents, but doesn’t favor either fighter and is impartial when it comes to choosing sides.
He believes Lesnar can win if he gets JDS to the ground and can control him there, but thinks JDS can win if he keeps it standing and knocks Lesnar out.
Velasquez admits that both Lesnar and JDS are improving and getting better every day.
When asked what he thinks about Zuffa LLC’s recent acquisition of Strikeforce and in particular, the Strikeforce Heavyweight Gran Prix, Velasquez says that he’s “almost certain that we’ll fight those guys. I don’t know when but sometime in the future.”
He mentioned that he feels Overeem is probably the best Strikeforce heavyweight. “He [Overeem] is the top level.”
Velasquez is hoping to be back on October 8th in Houston for UFC 136, or as soon as possible, and feels that the timing would be perfect.
