UFC News: Jon Fitch Talks About UFC 129 and His Shoulder Injury
Today on The MMA Hour, Jon Fitch spoke to Ariel Helwani about his shoulder injury, how soon we will see him back in the Octagon and his thoughts on UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields.
Fitch had both praise and criticism for St-Pierre, saying that GSP “did a great job…he had a great game plan and implemented it well.”
He also said that Shields looked “frustrated” at not being able to get inside and take GSP down.
When asked about his thoughts on the criticism St-Pierre faced for not finishing the fight, Fitch replied that “GSP deserves a little bit” of the criticism he’s receiving.
“He [GSP] never opened up more than a jab and overhand right,” Fitch explained.
Fitch says he too deserves some of the same criticism GSP is receiving, and is guilty of not seizing the opportunity to end a fight when one presents itself.
Fitch told Ariel that he is “on the shelf for the next three months” for a shoulder injury that he received during his fight with Penn.
He only has 70-80 percent of his strength due to the injury, and is undergoing surgery on May 5th, 2011. His expected recovery time is six months.
He hopes to fight in six months, but may not be able to start training camp for six months.
Fitch added that he’s “freaking out” about being inactive and can’t wait to get back in action!
