Here’s a look at the unheralded fantasy baseball players who played well yesterday.
St. Louis at Atlanta
David Freese is hitting .365 after going 2-for-4 with two RBI (14). Martin Prado also went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Brandon Beachy gave up two runs on three hits in seven innings. Jake Westbrook gave up two runs in six innings. Neither starter factored into the decision.
New York Mets at Philadelphia
Placido Polanco went 2-for-3 with an RBI (19) to raise his average to .398. John Mayberry, Jr. went 2-for-4 with a homer. Roy Halladay threw another complete game, but Jonathan Niese, the losing pitcher, gave up just two runs in six and one-third innings.
Los Angeles Angels at Tampa Bay
Matt Joyce went 2-for-4 with two runs and a homer to raise his average to .321. James Shields gave up one run on six hits with 12 strikeouts in eight innings. Joel Pinero gave up one run on four hits in seven innings. Neither starter factored into the decision.
Toronto at New York Yankees
Rajai Davis went 2-for-4 with a run. Juan Rivera went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
Detroit at Cleveland
Michael Brantley went 3-for-6 with two runs and a homer to raise his average to .297. Orlando Cabrera went 3-for-6 with an RBI (16). Matt LaPorta went 2-for-5. Ryan Raburn went 2-for-6 with a homer. Jhonny Peralta went 2-for-6. Rick Porcello gave up two runs with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Alex White gave up two runs in six innings. Neither starter factored into the decision.
San Francisco at Washington
Mike Fontenot went 2-for-4. Rick Ankiel went 2-for-4 with an RBI. John Lannan gave up two runs in 6.2 innings, but was saddled with the loss.
Seattle at Boston
Chone Figgins remained on fire going 2-for-5. Doug Fister threw 5.2 scoreless innings to improve to 2-3 with a 2.70 ERA.
Milwaukee at Houston
Jason Bourgeois went 3-for-5 with a run, and RBI, and two stolen bases (seven). Wandy Rodriguez threw eight scoreless innings. Randy Wolf gave up one run on four hits over seven innings to lower his ERA to 2.39. Neither starter factored into the decision.
Baltimore at Chicago White Sox
Robert Andino went 2-for-4 with two runs and a homer to raise his average to .348. Chris Tillman gave up one run in five innings for the win. Phil Humber gave up just two runs on three hits with five strikeouts in seven innings, but took the loss.
Texas at Oakland
David Murphy went 2-for-5 with two runs. Yorvit Torrealba went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Andy LaRoche went 2-for-4. Colby Lewis gave up two runs with six strikeouts in eight innings for the win.
Minnesota at Kansas City
Mike Aviles went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI (17). Melky Cabrera went 2-for-5 with a run to raise his average to .283. Alex Gordon went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI (19) to raise his average to .339. Matt Treanor went 1-for-2 with two runs. Chris Getz went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jason Kubel went 2-for-3 to raise his average to .351. Sean O’Sullivan gave up two runs in six innings, but got a no-decision. Matt Duensing, yesterday’s streaming pitcher option, gave up two earned runs in seven innings, but took the loss.
Pittsburgh at Colorado
Chris Iannetta went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Neil Walker went 2-for-4. Jason Hammel gave up one run in seven innings to improve to 3-1 with a 3.23 ERA.
Chicago Cubs at Arizona
Darwin Barney went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI to raise his average to .326. Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .287. Matt Garza gave up three runs with 10 strikeouts in eight innings for the win.
Florida at Cincinnati
Jonny Gomes went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI (17). Miguel Cairo went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-5 to raise his average to .296. Paul Janish went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Omar Infante went 2-for-3.
San Diego at Los Angeles Dodgers
Will Venable went 2-for-5 with two runs. Cameron Maybin went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Hiroki Kuroda gave up two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Tim Stauffer gave up two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings. Neither starter factored into the decision.
