UFC 129 Results: Jose Aldo, Lyoto Machida Earn Bonuses in Record $129K Payouts
Paying homage to the historic UFC 129 event, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has decided to reward its fighters with record postfight bonuses of $129,000, according to MMAFighting.
The organization always takes care of fighters in the form of Fight of the Night, Submission of the Night, and Knockout of the Night bonuses; but after selling out the Rogers Centre to 55,724 fans, the UFC decided to sweeten the pot a bit.
The record $12.075 million gate contributed to the Fight of the Night bonuses given to Jose Aldo and Mark Hominick for their memorable UFC featherweight championship bout.
The five-round title fight was a back-and-forth war which saw Hominick battle back from a terrible looking injury above his right-eye, only to nearly finish the champion in the fifth and final round.
Also bonusing at the event were Lyoto Machida and Pablo Garza, who earned Knockout of the Night and Submission of the Night, respectively.
Garza started the event off strong by submitting Yves Jabouin with an unbelievable flying triangle. After the fight, he even made reference in a postfight interview to the belief that his submission would hold up as the best of the night by yelling.
Machida's knockout of Randy Couture, using a front kick he learned from Steven Seagal, was perhaps the biggest highlight of this memorable event.
