Mr. Irrelevant Cheta Ozougwu Highlight Reel: 2011 NFL Draft Results:
When the Houston Texans used the 253rd pick of the 2011 NFL draft to select DE, Cheta Ozougwu from Houston's own, Rice University.
Roger Goodell wasn't there to hug Ozougwu and he didn't get to walk across the stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York or take pictures with a Texans' hat and jersey. All he got for getting drafted into the NFL was the dubious title of Mr. Irrelevant, a moniker given every year to the last man chosen in the NFL draft.
Many past Mr. Irrelevants never make an NFL roster much less start a game at the next level. But, as is so often the case in sports, a few have beaten the odds.
Ozougwu will hope to follow in the footsteps of 2009 Mr. Irrelevant, Kansas City Chief K Ryan Succop who not only started his rookie season but set the NFL rookie record for field goal accuracy by hitting on 25 of his 29 attempts.
Combine Highlights
1 of 2Ozougwu was a stand out DE at Rice as he started all four years earning All C-USA honors in both his junior and senior seasons.
At 6'3 247 lbs
Ozougwu did not awe scouts at the combine in February, but he did to prove that he had the NFL caliber measurables.
40-Yard Dash: 4.84 sec
225 LB Bench Press: 26 reps
20-Yard Shuffle: 4.31 sec
Vertical Jump: 34.5 inches
Broad Jump: 119 inches
Mr. Irrelevant Interview
2 of 2As a late-round draft pick Ozougwu's playing time as a Texan will depend on his heart, desire to improve, and willingness to do ANYTHING to help Houston win games.
If this interview following a Rice loss is any indication if Gary Kubiak tells this guy to jump he will reply "how high."
