Bobby Lashley Headed to MMA Career

Dorothy WillisOct 13, 2008

My goodness! Bobby Lashley is huge!

Standing at 6' 3" and weighing 275 lbs. he could make most men feel very small.

Seeing him inside an octagon could cause an evacuation of the embarrassing kind that Tim Sylvia once suffered.

The best way for me to describe it would be to compare it to the way I felt when a Brahma bull jumped out of the arena into the spectator seats at the Fort Madison Tri-State Rodeo (before they upgraded their fences to huge metal pipes from the wire fencing that the bellowing monster tore through).

Seeing something so big and rippling with muscles coming at you would be simply terrifying, beyond description really.

Yes readers, I know: not at all unlike watching Heath Herring being bowled over by big Brock Lesnar in their octagon meeting. I know, I know; please don't remind me.

Of course I have gone on record (often) that I do not like Brock Lesnar who left the WWE and has lumbered his way onto the UFC scene, so why am I in awe of hearing Bobby Lashley may soon be doing the same thing?

To put it very simply: I don't know.

I watched him being interviewed by tall, thin Ariel Harwani and was drawn in by his charisma, I guess.

He has been called "baby voice" because "he talks softly like a twelve year old girl," is the way other sports writers have put it. And I found his interview answers to be very gregarious, exactly like a preteen girl with her first cell phone. I didn't think he would ever stop talking. What a long interview!

Maybe his child-like manner speaks to me, or the fact that it is so hard to associate his childlike speech and enthusiasm with his humongous and muscular body.

Meeting him unexpectedly at night in a dark alley would be my worst nightmare; until he spoke at least.

He has been training for his transition from WWE to MMA with the same team as the Brazilian group which includes Anderson Silva, which brings up another type of nightmarish scenario. I can't imagine what courage it would take to train with those guys.

In my mind I like to think of this being the ultimate revenge for Dana bringing the WWE element called Brock Lesnar into the UFC, assuming Bobby could join the UFC and fight in the heavyweight division, someday meeting Lesnar in the octagon.

Whew! If that were to happen I hope they take heed of what happened at the Fort Madison Rodeo and reinforce that steel cage!

This would truly be a battle of the bulls.

Although Brock surely knows Bobby, I hope they don't have to speak before the fight.

That would completely destroy Bobby's fright inspiring illusion!

UPDATE: Bobby Lashley has announced that he has a contract in hand to fight in Miami, Florida December 13 at the America Airlines Srena. Although the would be MMA fighter announced these details he did not name the organization he would be fighting for except to say that it is NOT the UFC, EXC, or Strikeforce. Lashley is continuing his training under Marcus "Conan" Silveira.

From all of us here: Good Luck Bobby!
