UFC 129 Fight Card: Why Couture vs. Machida Will Steal the Show?

Jeffrey McKinneyApr 30, 2011

UFC 129 is just a few hours away. The stacked card has the potential to be the best event of the year. There are many fights on the card that could possibly be Fight of the Night, but I believe the one that will steal the show will be Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida.

Couture and Machida’s styles were not made for each other.

Couture likes to get in the clinch and dirty box, or take guys down for some ground and pound. Machida on the other hand uses his elusive karate to avoid taking much damage. This could be the typical try-to-chase-Machida-down-and-get-caught type of fight.

But I believe Couture has something up his sleeve. He’s known for his great game planning. This fight will have to be his best fight strategy-wise if he wants to win. Randy is known for getting in guys' faces during a fight. I suspect he’ll turn it up even more, as this may be his last fight.

Couture will not want to disappoint the crowd if this is his swan song.

Machida will also not want to disappoint. After going 16-0, Machida has lost two straight fights. A third could possibly send him out of the UFC. While he’s usually elusive, I expect Machida to take more chances and go for a KO.

When this fight was signed, I thought it could spell trouble for Couture. But he’s proven time and time again why you should never doubt him.

Although this fight may not have title implications or be a stand up war, look for these two to fight their hearts out.

This could be it for one of MMA’s legends.

It could also mean the end of the dragon.
