Chykie Brown to Baltimore Ravens: 2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Michael Schottey@SchotteyNFL National Lead WriterApril 30, 2011

Chykie Brown (CB, Texas) is the newest Baltimore Ravens player drafted with pick No. 164 in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

A high upside prospect, Brown was the third best cornerback in a very talented Texas Longhorns backfield. Brown stands at 6'0", 190 and has the ability to play either corner or safety depending on the team.

For the Baltimore Ravens, Brown will probably need to play cornerback but will have a heads up on his competition on a team without a lot of size at the position. Long term, Brown could be a very high-caliber backup to first-round draft pick Jimmy Smith.

In terms of his play, Brown is a work in progress. He has experience in a variety of coverage schemes, but has yet to excel in any of them. Brown is too stiff to play man coverage at a high level and doesn't yet have the instincts for zone coverage.

If he is forced to play right away, fans will sour on Brown. If given time to develop, he could be a very good value.
