UFC 129 Fight Card: Will a GSP-Headlined PPV Finally Earn 1 Million Buys?
UFC 129 will be headlined by one of the greatest fighters in MMA history, Georges St-Pierre.
Although he has headlined many PPV events in his career, St-Pierre has yet to headline one with 1 million pay-per view buys.
It is crazy to think that one of the greatest fighters in MMA history has yet to bring in this many buys.
St-Pierre is not the only top fighter this has happened to.
Anderson Silva is arguably the top fighter in the world. Yet his headlined pay-per views have not been amongst the top.
Although they are two of the greats, St-Pierre and Silva don’t have the celebrity or mouths of guys like Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Brock Lesnar.
Because of his WWE background, each PPV Lesnar has headlined has brought in over 1 million buys.
Another thing that may not help St-Pierre is despite being one of the top fighters in the world; he has not finished anyone since 2009.
You can’t completely blame St-Pierre for this. While he has tried to stop some guys, against others, he opts to go for take downs because that’s their weakness.
Things could change when the numbers come back tomorrow night.
One reason is Jake Shields.
Shields will bring new fans to the UFC who were once Strikeforce fans.
Another man who could bring in more buys is Jose Aldo.
Like St-Pierre and Silva, Aldo is looked at as one of the pound-for-pound best in the world. His dangerous striking is very popular amongst fans.
UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture will also be fighting in what could be his final fight. This alone could provide many PPV buys.
This card is not packed with guys who do a lot of trash talk.
But what it does have is some of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport competing.
UFC 129 should have over 1 million buys.
