UFC 129 Fight Card: 5 Reasons to Watch

Jeffrey McKinneyApr 29, 2011

UFC 129 is almost 24 hours away.

The highly stacked card will be one of the biggest events of the year.

Taking place in Toronto, Canada, the event will feature two championship bouts featuring two of the most dominant fighters in the world.

The same night could also be the last time we see Randy Couture fight in the octagon.

Here are five reasons to watch this highly stacked card.

All of the Preliminary Fights Can Be Viewed Live and Free

1 of 5

Some of the best fights that take place in the UFC are not featured on the main cards.

Thanks to Facebook and Spike TV, each of the preliminary fights can be viewed live.

What this means is we can see exciting fighters like Claude Patrick, Daniel Roberts, Jake Ellenberger, and Nate Diaz live and free.

Ben Henderson Is Making His UFC Debut Against Mark Bocek

2 of 5

Ben Henderson doesn’t have the best luck in the world.

First he loses his WEC title and becomes known as the guy on the receiving end of “The Kick,” by Anthony Pettis

Next Henderson weighs in at 156.5lbs, a half pound over the limit.

Weight issues aside, Henderson will look to bring his exciting style to the UFC’s lightweight division.

First up is the tough Canadian Mark Bocek.

Randy Couture Could Fight His Last Fight, Lyoto Machida Could Fight for Job

3 of 5

There has been much talk of Randy Couture fighting his last fight Saturday night.

Couture is an MMA legend.

Since joining the UFC in 1997, Couture has been champion five times, won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 13,  and been inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Couture is one of the most influential fighters in MMA history.

His fight at UFC 129 will be far from easy as he’ll take on former light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida.

Machida is currently riding a two-fight losing streak.

A third loss could put his job in serious jeopardy.

Aldo makes his UFC Debut against Dangerous striker Mark Homminick

4 of 5

Jose Aldo is one of the most dangerous fighters in MMA today.

His striking could easily put anyone down, and his leg kicks are lethal.

Just ask Urijah Faber how bad they were.

Aldo could be facing his toughest opponent to day as he takes on another dangerous striker in Mark Hominick.

Both fighters are tough, but I would be surprised if someone is not out cold on the ground at the end of it all.

Two of the Best Welterweights in the World Finally Clash

5 of 5

Georges St-Pierre and Jake Shields will meet in the main event of UFC 129.

St-Pierre is pound for pound one of the best fighters in the world.

Shields may not be far behind as he has won titles at both middle and welterweight.

He is also on a 15-fight win streak.

Few have Shields winning the fight. But St-Pierre knows this is the biggest fight of his career.

The fight could be an exhibition on the ground, or a surprising stand up war. Either way I expect both fighters to have an excellent game plan.

No matter the outcome, one man’s legacy will continue to build.
