WWE Extreme Rules Odds: Predictions You Can Take to the Bank

Robert AitkenApr 29, 2011

We are now close to 48 hours from Extreme Rules this Sunday night. The first post-WrestleMania pay-per-view of the year takes place on May 1, known by some as May Day. With that said, some superstars may be crying "mayday" when trying to select the winners of these matches.

Fortunately, here is a match-by-match breakdown with odds of each winner and explanations behind each selection. Be it that you are betting on match results (which I don't only not condone, but find pretty moronic) or trying to seem like a genius to your friends, these picks will not let you down... hopefully.

The picks will be rated on a range of 1 to 10, with 1 being "I have no clue" and 10 being "I might as well be writing the script".

NOTE: There is also an additional match added on here that will be officially announced tonight on Smackdown. It is not a shocking development in terms of the participants, but for those who are anti-spoilers, please avoid the final slide of the slideshow.

WWE Championship: John Morrison vs. John Cena vs. the Miz (c) (Cage Match)

1 of 6

This is a triple threat cage match with three very interesting possible winners. John Morrison took the spot away from R-Truth for his chance at his first world championship.

John Cena has not had a world title in what seems like forever. The Miz has been the reigning WWE Champion for a very long time and could be launched among the all-time longest reigns in history with a victory.

Morrison is the fan favorite in this match but, just weeks removed from his punishment for the Cold Shoulder Saga, can we really take him winning this match seriously?

He still has a feud with R-Truth brewing so we can almost anticipate R-Truth costing Morrison the title in some way. How that happens exactly in a cage match is beyond me and up to WWE to figure out.

As for Cena and Miz, I would like to see The Miz continue his great and long run, but I know where the limit lays. The Miz has gone over and become a new man from that belt and the true test is to see how The Miz works without gold, something that has rarely been seen since the change in his attitude.

John Cena seems to be due to win this championship on Sunday, which can lead to an interesting encounter in Miami on RAW Monday night during The Rock's birthday bash. I don't think Cena will hold onto it for very long, but Cena should get the belt back just to give The Miz a break without the belt.

Pick: Cena

Confidence: 7/10

World Heavyweight Championship: Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio (Ladder Match)

2 of 6

This seems to be wrapped up for Christian, but I am certain that there is more to this than meets the eye.

Christian is taking over for Edge and facing Del Rio in a ladder match, in which Christian is very experienced. Del Rio has had countless chances at the championship and may still not be ready for it.

However, Del Rio is moving to RAW, which seems like WWE is saying that Del Rio is good enough to move to their flagship show, where most of the top talent calls home.

WWE can survive with two face world champions and a mix of face and heel champs. However, two heel champs just doesn't make sense.

This is also a reason that The Miz will likely lose Sunday night. With two heel mid-card champions and a heel Divas champion, faces are in need of some title wins. This is yet another advantage for Christian.

There just seems to be something more to this. As obvious as WWE gets with some things, would WWE really make this title win for Christian an obvious thought with an entire week before the pay-per-view?

They probably would, but I just can't see it for certain. I'll take Alberto Del Rio with the cards stacked against me.

Pick: Del Rio

Confidence: 5/10

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk (Last Man Standing Match)

3 of 6

This is a blowoff match, which seems to be the running theme up and down the card. Orton is Smackdown-bound and whoever wins the last match is likely keeping the title warm for The Viper.

CM Punk has been disrespected and forgotten by both WWE and fans alike. Step one to this would be to rid Punk of Nexus, which should be happening after this match.

Punk needs this win a lot more than Orton does. It is a Last Man Standing match, though. Can we really buy Orton, especially a face version of Orton, to not answer a ten-count?

Punk looks like he will job, but I can only hope that ending this feud will give Punk something bigger and better.

Pick: Orton

Confidence: 8/10

Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes (Falls Count Anywhere)

4 of 6

Yet another blowoff match ends likely before it was supposed to. Logic would make you think that this should have ended in a Mask vs. Mask angle, likely having Rhodes lose and no longer have his protective mask.

However, I think that Rhodes may have ended up winning that in the long run and that may not have made Mysterio happy, which may have forced the move to RAW for Mysterio.

I am not a fan of Mysterio and his attitude, especially in recent years. I would love to see him lose, but I know better than that. Ugh.

Pick: Mysterio

Confidence: 8/10

Michael Cole/Jack Swagger vs Jim Ross/Jerry Lawler (Country Whipping Match)

5 of 6

I really don't care about this match. Nobody really does.

When all else fails, especially with non-wrestlers, resort to picking faces.

Pick: Ross/Lawler

Confidence: 10/10

Layla vs Michelle McCool

6 of 6

NOTE: This slide does contain spoilers for tonight's episode of Smackdown.

From what I understand, this match between Layla and Michelle McCool will take place on Sunday will be No Disqualification, No Countouts, and the loser of the match must leave Smackdown.

This almost makes up for John Cena being drafted twice out of the 30 picks in this week's WWE Draft... almost.

However, we are also hearing rumors of McCool leaving WWE entirely. In that sense, Layla may have the advantage.

McCool is just a better wrestler and more believable to win. Even as a face, I still think Layla should lose and leave Smackdown for a new beginning.

Pick: McCool

Confidence: 7/10
