WWE Extreme Rules 2011: Why The Miz Will Win the Triple Threat Steel Cage Match

Giulio RomanoApr 29, 2011

Happy Friday Bleachers.

There are a few days left before the pay per view event known as "Extreme Rules," and once again, The Miz will defend the WWE championship against John Cena and former tag team partner John Morrison. However, this encounter will be a triple threat match and within the confines of a steel cage.

I believe it will be an action-packed main event with great spots from all three superstars. I also believe we are not done living in the "Age of Awesomeness" right now, as I expect the champion to retain his championship and moving forward to the next challenge.

It seems like a logical move right now for The Miz to retain as he is the top "heel" character on Monday Night Raw. He generates tons of heat from the live crowd and has given stability to the title we haven't seen for over two years. We know the facts, where The Awesome One has represented the company all over the media so on and so forth, and thus, I think they would be fools to ruin that momentum now.

Before I get to The Miz particularly, I'll talk about the other participants and prove why is is now time for a change just yet starting with...

John Morrison

The one with the smallest chance to claim victory

Formerly The Miz's tag team partner and co-host of "The Dirt Sheet." Morrison has remained a great performer ever since his split, yet has failed to capture the world title, despite a few attempts. The main reason he will not win this Sunday is definitely the presence of another former associate in R-Truth, whose recent "heel" turn has left Morrison battered and unconscious.

I enjoy John Morrison's character very much when he is not talking as a "face." What happened to the great Johnny Nitro segment we enjoyed back when he was paired with Melina?

We all know the importance of promo skills a superstar or diva needs to get ahead; JoMo hasn't nailed that one yet...as a fan favorite that is. He recently seemed to change his tune a little when he tricked Truth into giving up his title shot, so perhaps this was a sign of a more deceiving Morrison coming soon to a WWE event near you?

I hope so. I would also recommend he shave that beard of his and change his pants too. The Miz has made considerable changes to HIS character; maybe if Morrison did the same it would be more beneficial in the long run.

Expect R-Truth to cost him his chance and for them to do battle the following month at "Over the Limit."

Then we have?...oh yes him!...

John Cena

The one that allows this match to still remain unpredictable

He has been the head of the house for years and a great defender of the WWE model in the eyes of fans and peers alike. He is Captain WWE, and many project him to win the title for the eighth time come this Sunday at Extreme Rules.

A few factors could make all the difference for Cena walking out of the cage with the gold. One of them is the recent addition of Alberto Del Rio to the Raw roster.

Now I hear countless comments on how there cannot be two world champions on Monday nights and how Cena hasn't held the WWE championship for many months now. All is not as it seems.

There may already be plans for a Cena-Del Rio encounter at SummerSlam with the WWE title or WHC involved. Let me say now, they are not set in stone and are still rumors.

Perhaps this match is made inside a cage to allow Cena a loss without being pinned. I believe if they really wanted him to be champion, then it would have happened at WrestleMania XXVII. It also has been a long time since he's held the World Heavyweight championship so we need to consider that option.

John Cena is ready for a fight and he will give it all he's got, but it will not be enough in a triple threat match.

Maybe someone like Drew McIntyre or Dolph Ziggler will get involved. They are new to Raw and need to face a top superstar to gain credibility.

Finally we have...

WWE Champion The Miz

The one that has yet to be defeated

He has brought back stability to the championship with his five months reign. He has helped promote WWE tremendously outside the ring along with Cena and other. You cannot deny this man is a heat magnet and gets the crowd on fire whenever he opens his mouth.

Despite his rule-breaking persona, he has attained an incredible number of fans who root for him and await his arrival every week.

It is on record that the upper creative gurus are behind this man very much and believe in his abilities, despite the cacophony of negativity sent his way.

I believe he will pull another upset and keep his belt. He is too hot right now to quench. This is also the main reason I believe he is involved in a cage match. It allows him to slider his way out and keep his title.

He said it best last week, no matter how he does it, he gets the job done. Who can argue with that?

He makes a good champion and with him at the helm as a bad guy there is opening for other faces besides John Cena to step up to the plate for a piece of greatness.

He might still head for SmackDown though, and take his title with him.

Who knows what will happen the next night on Raw with The Rock present.

We all have to pick somebody to win this one.

My gut, my heart and my choice stand with WWE Champion The Miz to retain the title.
