2011 NFL Draft: Five Linebackers That the Chiefs Should Target in Day Two

The Chiefs went with WR Jonathan Baldwin from Pittsburgh for their first-round pick.

KC should turn to defense on day two, where they are in desperate need of a run-stopping DT and another linebacker or two.

In this piece, I have previewed the Top 5 linebackers that could be had by Kansas City with any of their three combined selections in Rounds 2 and 3.

Akeem Ayers

The UCLA product could be exactly what the Chiefs need at OLB, opposite Pro-Bowler Tamba Hali.

He has a high motor and is one of the fastest linebackers in this year's class. He has great hands and awareness as well.

The Chiefs might have to trade up to get Ayers as he is likely to come off the board in the early part of the second-round.

Martez Wilson

Wilson has been labeled a freak of an outside linebacker, an athlete that can make all of the plays.

He is one of the most versatile OLBs in this year's draft class and could be a perfect compliment to the Chiefs' Tamba Hali.

He should still be there with the Chiefs second- or third-round picks today as he looks to be a sleeper in this draft.

Chris Carter

Other than Nevada's Dontay Moch, Carter is arguably the best pass rusher left in this linebacker class.

He had 11 sacks last season for Fresno State, amassing 19 combined over his last three years there.

He could immediately step in and give the Chiefs another pass-rushing threat at OLB, a position the team desperately needs to address right now. 

Dontay Moch

Moch is a pure pass-rusher who has an ability to get to the opposing QB and should not be overlooked.

Moch had 19 sacks in his five year career at Nevada, including 11 in 2008.

He is smaller—6'1", 245 lbs—but is very strong and would really improve the Chiefs defense with his physicality and great pass-rush skills.

Mason Foster

Foster is arguably the best ILB prospect available in this year's draft heading into day two.

He had an impressive 162 tackles last season for the Washington Huskies, and has a nose for the ball carrier that few possess.

Although ILB is currently not as pressing a need for KC as is OLB, he would be an upgrade over current Chiefs starter Jovan Belcher.
