NFL Draft 2011 Results: Live Updates for Draft Picks 1-4
The 2011 NFL draft results are here, and we have the first four picks from the draft right here. There was no surprise when the first pick was taken.
We all knew that Cam Newton had the love and affection of the Carolina Panthers. A day that has seen a ton of drama concerning the lockout had some emotion from the top selections taken.
For once, we have some celebration in the NFL. There are smiles filling the room instead of talk about the CBA and litigation.
Here is a rundown of the top four picks in the 2011 NFL draft.
Carolina Panthers Take Cam Newton No. 1
1 of 4
Cam Newton gives the Carolina Panthers one thing right off the bat: star power.
Sure, he will be a project that will certainly falter in his first season.
But the pace and poise will come to him in due time. I have confidence that his skill will soon show through and delight Panthers fans.
He may not impact the team right away, but he will certainly impact the ticket sales. The Panthers have been a team without full stands for too long.
That all ends with Cam Newton.
Denver Broncos Take Von Miller No. 2
2 of 4
The Denver Broncos needed one thing: defense. The Broncos were a doormat for the NFL to trod on.
That all ends right now.
Miller is an explosion waiting to happen on the field. The Broncos finally have a guy that can come in and dominate from the end.
Von Miller instantly makes the Broncos a defensive team to worry about. In the weaker AFC West, this pick makes the Broncos a team that must be paid attention to. They were horrible against the run.
Miller is great at plugging the holes and making running backs earn their pay checks.
Buffalo Bills Take Marcell Dareus No. 3
3 of 4
This was a great selection for the Bills. They made mediocre running backs look like Pro Bowlers. The Bills have the offense to win some ballgames.
They just need a player that can really affect the line on the defensive end.
Now, they have him.
Dareus is a behemoth that not many can contend with.
Dareus will plug up holes and get his arms all over running backs. Good luck running on this team next season.
Cincinnati Bengals Take A.J. Green No. 4
4 of 4
Some have deemed this the year of the quarterback.
It very well could be the year of the wide receiver.
The best in the nation was taken No. 4 overall.
Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens will both be out of the Bengals picture to start the season. This is one team that cannot go without a star player on the wing.
The new fan favorite will be A.J. Green. This is a hardworking speedster that runs sick routes. He is very good in the open field and has a way of eluding defenders.
This is the next great receiver.
