NFL Draft Rumors: New England Patriots Could Trade Up for Cameron Jordan

Tony SantorsaApr 28, 2011

In a recent tweet via Chris Morensen's twitter account, he indicates that the New England Patriots are looking to "trade with Dallas to get Cameron Jordan."

Currently, the Patriots sit with the 17th and 28th overall picks while the Dallas Cowboys hold the ninth overall pick. If this report is true, then Jordan's stock has increased as I've had the Patriots selecting the former Cal defensive end at 17th overall in my latest mock draft.

This is an interesting rumor considering that the last time New England actually selected a player in the top 10 of the NFL draft was back in 2008 when the Patriots selected linebacker Jerod Mayo at 10th overall.

Jordan is a very well-rounded defensive end and appears to be a perfect fit in New England's 3-4 defensive alignment. He's stout against the run, a great pass-rusher and a relentless player that plays until the whistle.

In an article that I wrote earlier today, I touched upon a recent report via The Boston Globe that indicates the Patriots are currently targeting the Cleveland Browns' sixth overall pick to potentially draft Robert Quinn, A.J. Green or Patrick Peterson.

In just hours before the draft, there are already rumors arising that New England is looking to move up into the top 10 of the first round—which is kind of unusual considering that the Bill Belichick and the Patriots love trading back while stockpiling on mid-round draft picks.

New England enters tonight's draft with nine selections, six of them being in the top 92, which gives Belichick and company all the right pieces to make a move—whether it's moving up or dropping back.

Either way, if Belichick and the Patriots have Jordan ranked very high on their draft board, then I would expect they would trade up and go get him—and the same goes for any other top-10 prospects such as Quinn, Green or Peterson.
