NHL Playoffs 2011: Nathan Horton OT Goal Puts Bruins in 2nd Round vs. Flyers

Nicholas GossApr 27, 2011

Nathan Horton added another memorable goal to his first ever postseason on Wednesday night, scoring the series winning goal in a 4-3 overtime triumph in Game 7 versus the Montreal Canadiens.

It was Horton's second goal of the series, his first was the winner in double-overtime of Game 5.

Boston won the series 4-3 after losing the first two games at home.

The Bruins will play the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, and Game 1 of the series will start in Philadelphia on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Flyers beat Boston in seven games last year in the Eastern semis, after the Bruins held a 3-0 lead in the series.

The Bruins will look to avenge their historic 2010 playoff collapse in this year's rematch.

In an ESPN article updated on April 27 Horton described his first playoffs, "Just getting to the playoffs is all I was really thinking about. This has been a dream come true."

Horton and his linemates Milan Lucic and David Krejci must play better against the Flyers than they did versus the Canadiens if the Bruins are to advance to the conference finals.

The Bruins got off to a perfect start in Game 7 with first period goals from Johnny Boychuk and Mark Recchi giving Boston an early 2-0 lead.

Montreal rallied to tie the game with a first period powerplay goal by Yannick Weber and a second period shorthanded breakaway goal by Tomas Plekanec.

Chris Kelly scored a go ahead goal in the third period to give the Bruins a lead, but a high-sticking penalty to Patrice Bergeron gave the Canadiens a late powerplay with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.

Canadiens defenseman PK Subban tied the game on the powerplay with a slapshot from a few feet beyond the faceoff circle to force overtime.

Horton scored the series winner five minutes and 43 seconds into the extra period with a slapshot that appeared to have been deflected on its way to the net and past Montreal goaltender Carey Price.

The Bruins became the first team in franchise history to win a series after losing the first two games, and they became the first team in NHL history to win a playoff series while scoring zero powerplay goals.
